  • Year 5&6 Cross Country team crowned Champions!

    Mon 11 Oct 2021 D Thomas

    UPDATE

    Provisional results are in and unless there are deemed to be any discrepancies by competing schools Fielding have been crowned Cross Country Champions again!

    Fielding won a very close boys competition by just 6 points to reclaim the Boys Shield. We finished 2nd in the girls competition, which was won by Notting Hill and Ealing Junior School. Finally, when the boys and girls scores were combined we finished as outright winners, beating St. Mark's in second place by over 100 points to reclaim the Overall Shield again too!

    A huge well done to the whole Cross Country team again - you are this years champions!

    On Thursday 7th October, Fielding took a team of 36 Year 5 and 6 Cross country runners to this years Featherstone School Sport Partnership races. The runners were divided into Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys races each of them measuring 1.5km. Every one of our team ran great races with many looking like they achieved excellent times. We were also very happy to see Jack in Year 6 winning the the Year 6 boys race ahead of over 200 other runners! We now need to wait for the organisers to review all of the finishing times and positions to find out how the team faired against other schools on the whole. Fingers crossed!

  • COVID-19. Rising cases in years 4, 5 & 6

    Fri 08 Oct 2021 Peter Dunmall

    Pupil cases of COVID are rising in classes 6F (Miss Stabler), 5S (Miss Watson), 4H (Miss Whaley). From last weekend and through this week:

    • 6 confirmed cases are reported in class 6F,
    • 6 confirmed cases in class 5S and
    • 5 confirmed cases in 4H.

    Some of these pupils have shown no symptoms at all but have taken a COVID test after being identified as a close contact. Others have been unwell with no recognised COVID symptoms.

    If your child has any symptoms of COVID, please err on the side of caution:

    • keep your child at home;
    • take a PCR test;
    • if the PCR test result is negative, return to school straight away;
    • if the PCR test is positive, continue to self-isolate.

    In school, whole school assemblies in the halls were due to restart this week. We are postponing these large group gatherings to reduce the risk of infection. Adults continue to socially distance from one another and pupils.

    We will continue to monitor the number of confirmed cases and take advice from Public Health England, if needed. Sending classes home to self-isolate is a last resort according to current government guidance.

    Use our form to report positive PCR test results to us:

  • PTFA: Help required on Christmas Fair Committee

    Thu 07 Oct 2021 School Office

    The Christmas Fair is planned to take place on Saturday 4 December (worth noting in the diary now!) with each class asked to run a stall.  With this in mind, the PTFA is looking for parents to join the Christmas Fair Committee (normally about 8-10 people).

    The committee will meet a couple of times (normally over Zoom) to help agree on the stalls that will be offered to classes.  The committee also helps manage communication with classes, organise ticketing for Grotto, manage busking stage/external stall holders and reach out to potential local sponsors amongst others.  If you feel you can give a couple of hours to support PTFA activities between now and Christmas please get in touch (Email FieldingPTFA@gmail.com)

    We'll help guide you if you have never volunteered before, plus you'll meet parents from across the school! Those parents that have helped previously will tell you that it's a rewarding experience knowing that they have helped raise around £10,000 for the PTFA, plus you'll learn more things about the school and PTFA activities.

  • PTFA appoints new parents to Committee

    Thu 07 Oct 2021 School Office

    Thank you to all those parents/carers who joined the PTFA's AGM meeting on Monday.  It was great to see so many people join the zoom call following the last minute decision to move it online.  Apologies to those that weren't able to get into the zoom meeting.

    During the meeting we highlighted the success of the last 12 month period, raising over £36,000 through a combination of virtual events and some slightly unusual hybrid events (which have gained national recognition). We also ran some face-to-face pop up shops in parents front gardens so a huge thank you to all those involved.

    The meeting saw the appointment of new committee members.  These included Nolan O'Connor as Chair, Aaliah Haq as Vice Chair, Charlotte Douglass as Treasurer with Graham Poole as Vice-Treasurer, Emma Devlin and Steven Hirschorn as Co-Secretaries, Polly & Dan Foley and Amanda Abbey as Event Coordinators, Karrie O'Connor and Vincent Sorel as Communications coordinators.  The positions run alongside other parents who are on the regular PTFA Committee adding skills like the eco-coordinator and year 6 working group. If you would like to join the team and donate 30mins a week then email fieldingPTFA@gmail.com.

    A special thanks goes to those committee members who stepped down including Mary Horesh, Radhika White and Chris Gartside.  Your support has been greatly appreciated

  • PTFA: Want to learn facing painting skills?

    Wed 06 Oct 2021 School Office

    Are you keen to learn how to face paint?  Do you already have the skills?  If so, then the PTFA are on the look out for a Face Painting Team as the current team at Fielding is starting to diminish as their children leave the school.

    The team is usually called upon for the Christmas and Summer Fair to help face paint children who are attending.  The PTFA have new stocks of face paint, and we have a number of parents who are keen to teach the craft of face painting - so you will be learning from the experts!

    Ideally we would be looking for a number of parents from the same class so that this class could be assigned the Face Painting stall at the fairs, however this is certainly not essential.

    Please get in contact if you are keen to learn a new skill for life!  Email:  FieldingPTFAevents@gmail.com

  • Fielding finish as runners up in Featherstone SSP Boys Football Competition

    Mon 04 Oct 2021 D Thomas

    On Thursday 30th September, Fielding took 2 football teams to this years Featherstone School Sport Partnership football competition. The teams were made up of boys in Year 5 and 6 who are currently training as part of the football squad.

    Both teams were excellent on the day with the Blues winning 3 out of 4 group games to progress to the quarter finals and the Whites winning 4 out of 5 group games to progress to the quarter finals. As bad luck would have it, both Fielding teams were drawn to play against each other in the quarter finals so we knew that although we would definitely have 1 team in the semi finals, 1 team would also be going out.

    The quarter final was an excellent game of football which was closely contested all the way to the final whistle. Upon hearing the final whistle, there was only 1 goal scored and it was by the Blues and so they went on to the semi finals whereas the Whites would be cheering from the sidelines.

    The Blues then won another close game in the semi finals against Selborne. The game was 0-0 at full time and was decided on penalties which Fielding won. This set the Blues up to play against St. Mark's in the final - the only team that had managed to beat the Blues in the group stages! It was another very close game with both teams coming close to scoring but ultimately it was to be decided by penalties. This time we weren't able to win as we lost the shootout 3-2.

    It was a great day though and both teams represented Fielding superbly. Well done to everyone involved.

  • COVID-19. Update and reminders

    Mon 04 Oct 2021 Peter Dunmall

    The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in classes 5S and 6S has met a government threshold. If there are 10% of pupils / staff or 5 cases who are likely to have mixed closely, or tested positive within a 10-day period then we talk to Public Health England for advice.

    We know that you may find this worrying. We are continuing to monitor the number of cases and taking advice from Public Health England. For most people, COVID-19 will be a mild illness.

    The school remains open to all pupils. Children should continue to attend as normal if they remain well. Other pupils in classes where a child has COVID-19 should continue to come to school. Class 'bubbles' and self-isolation has ended.

    As recommended, we are continuing to:

    • ventilate classrooms by keeping doors and windows open as much as possible;
    • avoid large gatherings of pupils in assemblies, using video assemblies instead;
    • avoid singing assemblies;
    • allow mixing of classes outside.

    For classes 5S and 6H, we are:

    • increasing hand-washing during the school day;
    • increasing cleaning of high-touch surfaces and resources;
    • face-masks are not recommended or required for pupils in primary schools.

    What to do if a child develops symptoms of COVID-19 or tests positive for COVID-19

    • symptoms of COVID-19 are a new, continuous cough, or a high temperature, or a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell;
    • stay at home;
    • take a PCR test and remain at home at least until the test result is known. Get a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) or by calling 119.
    • if negative, the child can end self-isolation and return to school;
    • if positive, the child should self-isolate until at least 10 days after their symptoms appeared or date of the PCR test;
    • if a child has a positive test result but does not have symptoms, they should stay at home and self-isolate for 10 days from the date the positive test was taken. This can be extended if they go on to develop symptoms by counting 10 days from the day following the start of their symptoms.

    If a child lives in the same household as someone with COVID-19 (tested positive or has symptoms and waiting for a test result)

    From 16 August, pupils are not required to self-isolate if they are the contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

    For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

    If your child does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website:

    If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111:

    How to stop coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading

    There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with coronavirus (COVID-19):

    • get vaccinated – everyone aged 18 and over can book COVID-19 vaccination appointments now and 16-17 year olds are being offered 1 dose of the vaccination by 23 August
    • wash your hands with soap and water or use hand sanitiser regularly throughout the day
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
    • meet people outside and avoid crowded areas
    • open doors and windows to let in fresh air if meeting people inside
    • wear a face covering if aged 11 and over when it's hard to stay away from other people – particularly indoors or in crowded places
    • participate in twice weekly LFD testing following national guidelines (recommended for 11 years and over). We encourage you to log your results here: https://www.gov.uk/log-test-site-covid19-results

  • PTFA moves AGM online (Mon 4 Oct 8.30pm)

    Mon 04 Oct 2021 School Office

    Due to rising Covid cases amongst families at the school, the PTFA feel it is prudent to switch the AGM to an online zoom meeting this evening (Monday 4 October at 8.30pm). Hopefully this will allow more parents to attend and show their support for PTFA activities. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZMkc-CqpjIvHt0RHSxazfsZzn7IVPVSkD27

  • Term dates change

    Fri 01 Oct 2021 Peter Dunmall

    All schools have an extra day of holiday as a result of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee during this school year. Our school term and holiday dates change:

    • Tuesday 19 April 2022, extra Occasional Day. School is closed to all pupils and staff;
    • Wednesday 20 April 2022, Nursery is closed to pupils. Nursery staff training day;
    • Wednesday 20 April 2022, Pupils' first day for Reception to Year 6.

    The government changed the rules about the number of days that schools must be open to pupils as a result of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June. Schools must now open for 189 pupil days (rather than 190 days) to give schools an extra day’s closure for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Most schools will be away on half term on 3 June 2022, the date of the extra bank holiday, and so are permitted to close on an extra day of their choice.

    To reduce inconvenience to parents and give families a longer school holiday, we have added the day to the end of the Easter holiday.
