Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
We are moving closer to our aim of one single log-in for parents to be able to access the information they need. We have been working with our developers at Laser Systems to further develop our use of Laser for communication.
Many of you successfully use Laser to book childcare and specialist clubs. You also used it to book your last parent teacher consultation meeting. Recently we have added our health care information - with health care plans, and M.A.R.S (Minor Accident Reporting System). Thank you to those parents who have offered us feedback on this system, we have now made some small design changes to the health care plans which should make them more user friendly for parents to complete.
Next steps, Events, Trips and Music (EMS) booking: from September you will be able to give consent, book and pay for these through Laser - meaning one log-in and no paper forms. We are hoping to be able to trial this part of the system with booking tickets for the Year 6 production this term, we will keep you updated on this over the next couple of weeks.
From September we will be moving all communication away from Parentmail and onto Laser, this means instead of receiving emails from Parentmail they will come from Laser, you can also email us from your Laser account.
We know that our current calendar of events is not as user friendly as it could be. From September we will be using the calendar function on Laser to keep you informed of all events, you will be able to filter this by year group so that it is relevant to you and you child.
Check you Laser account is activated here: http://fps.slsr.co.uk/
You may remember that after analysing the themes coming out of the responses to the School's annual Parent Survey earlier this year, the Governing Body agreed to conduct a further survey with parents and carers, to look at communications specifically. We are very grateful for the support and professional input from George Harrington, Rachel Phillips and Jo Poucher who have been a great help in designing and focussing the questionnaire.
The survey is now available here https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GBCommunication and we would be very grateful for your full and frank responses. I can assure you that the survey is entirely confidential and the information collected will be used to shape and refine the Fielding Communications Strategy going forward.
The survey should take no more than 5-7 minutes to complete and your replies will be extremely valuable to the Governing Body. The deadline for submitting your response is the end of the day on Wednesday 7th July.
With many thanks in advance for your input

Over the past two years, we have successfully implemented a Values-based Education ethos at Fielding. We are both proud and encouraged by the way our pupils have responded to this approach to learning and behaviour.
We initially agreed on a set of school values that ran on a two year cycle. We are nearing the end of this cycle and would like to refresh, develop and deepen the values that we teach our pupils, incorporating some values for learning to link with our Visible Learning project. http://visible-learning.org/
We would like to invite you to attend a workshop on Thursday 7th July at 9am to help us update our core values which will be at the heart of teaching and learning from September. This session is expected to last up to an hour.
A key element of creating a successful Values-based school is a shared understanding of a values vocabulary. Staff model and teach positive values throughout the school which is then reinforced at home, frequent repetition and regular discussion about values reinforces their meaning. Values-based education is an approach to teaching that works with values. It creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic attainment, and develops children’s social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. Reception have been very excited about the arrival of eggs into school. 10 eggs were delivered and the children waited patiently to see which egg was going to hatch first. By the end of the first week, we had 8 chicks so far and one more chick hatched this week that needed a little bit of help getting out of its shell and some rehabilitation. So 4 girls and 5 boys in total. Learning about the chicks has also informed our writing activities. The children have written lists about how to care for the chicks, have written about the life cycle of a hen and compiled a chick diary about their observations of watching the chicks grow. This week the children have had the opportunity to handle the chicks carefully, making sure to be gentle and of course washing their hands afterwards. The children have been so excited to have the chicks in school, as you can see from the following pictures. On Friday the chicks will be going to their next home, a farm in Essex.
Fielding recognises that consistency and continuity in wrap around care is vital for working parents. Over the last year we have worked hard to achieve this by offering:
*Termly timetables and sign up for clubs
*Where possible, keeping clubs running at the same time and day each term
*Offering an online booking system to allow parents to book from any internet enabled device
For the next school year we wanted to improve this further by offering an annual schedule of clubs. Whilst we would love to offer every club every term, this isn’t always possible due to space. The annual schedule will allow parents to plan ahead and plan external activities based on the opportunities at Fielding.
Sign up for clubs will work in the same way as this year. Each booking will be valid for one term (unless stated otherwise). Parents can then change activities or re-book before for the term ahead. We encourage parents to attend our Fresher’s Fair, held on 15th July to meet our providers and learn about the provision before booking. Children in receipt of Pupil Premium passports will receive further information shortly.
Booking for clubs will open at 8pm on 18th July via laser. For more information, including terms and conditions visit the clubs page of the website.
This year Fielding will be holding it's first ever Freshers Fair. The event will take place after school on Friday 15th July. 3.45-5.45pm.
After listening to feedback, we wanted to provide the opportunity for you to engage with providers and learn more about the specialist clubs before booking. Children and parents will get the chance to:
*Meet and greet providers
*See live demonstrations, including children who have attended clubs this term
*Join in with mini taster sessions
Our schedule of Specialist clubs for the next school year will be published on 23rd June, under the clubs section on the school website. Booking will open on Laser Monday 18th July at 8pm. To view your invite, click here.
As a culmination of the children’s work on Islam in Year 5, we will be holding a showcase on to share with you all they have learnt on Friday 01 July . This showcase will also celebrate the upcoming Islamic festival of Eid on 6th July. If you would like to visit this showcase please come to the main school reception at 3.00 pm on 1 July and you will be shown to your child’s class.
Hope to see you then.
Kind regards,
Year 5 team
