  • Calling all armchair gardeners

Tue 09 Feb 2021 Ellie Lock

If you're missing our outdoor adventures in the school garden, you might be interested in a Virtual Discovery Week being run over half term by the Royal Parks. They're covering a lot of the exciting things we do in gardening lessons - like birdspotting, minibeasts and plant lifecycles - plus a few things we don't do, like feeding the pelicans!

It's free, it runs from Monday 15th February, and if you can't join on the day, there are activities you can download when it suits you.

    Check it out here.

  • Virtual author visit for Year 6!

Tue 09 Feb 2021 Clare Haines

Today Year 6 arrived at the final chapter of their class book 'Street Child'. Luckily for them they had a special guest read it to them - Berlie Doherty the author herself! Huge thanks to Miss Calver for organising this for the children and to Berlie for agreeing to do this. I'm sure they will all remember this virtual visit in years to come.

Berlie read, bringing the voices of the characters to life. She also discussed the sequel to the book' Far From Home' and how she came to write about Jim Jarvis himself.  Miss Calver had the pleasure of putting some of the children's questions to Berlie: discussing her inspiration, her writing techniques, characters, her love of reading and how important her dad was to her by giving her a creative flair for oral story-telling. Having written and published over 60 books, Berlie was able to tell the children about other books she has written. Her website is Berlie Doherty - Home jam-packed with lots of details about her, her books and upcoming writing.

  • Be part of the BIG Lockdown Parent Survey, national research on remote learning, chance to win a Chromebook

Mon 08 Feb 2021 Clare Haines

We have been selected to participate in a national survey about how children are learning at home and the impact lockdown-learning is having on family life.

To help us do this, we would like you to download and use a free survey app called Parent Ping: https://bit.ly/parentping. They will ask you a few questions each day and show you see how other parents are coping in lockdown.

When you first sign in to the app it will ask you the full school name (Fielding Primary School and Nursery) and for the first part of the postcode (W13). Please do this carefully so we can make sure all your answers are included!

    The benefits to you:

    • See how other parents answer the questions!
    • A chance to win a Chromebooks in the national weekly draw
    • A chance to win a £30 Amazon voucher in our school’s weekly draw

    The benefits to the school:

    • When at least 60 parents are answering the survey questions each day, we will be sent a set of results that compares what you think to what all parents in the country think. This will help us better understand your needs and challenges around home-learning.

You don’t have to join in if you don’t want to, it’s completely voluntary, but this is a great time to share your opinions, not just with us but with other parents and with the people who make decisions about education in England.

If you would like to know more about the project, please see https://parentping.co.uk/bigsurvey/

  • EMS Instrumental Lessons Cancellation Deadline Thursday 11th February 2021 5pm

    Mon 08 Feb 2021 Maria Neil-Smith

    Dear Parents,

Many thanks for all your support with Zoom instrumental lessons over this period. Your child will automatically be enrolled in instrumental tuition in the summer term unless we receive a cancellation form from you before half term. In the unlikely event that you wish to cancel lessons next term, information on how to do this is below.

Half a term’s notice prior to the start of the next term is required for cancellations therefore cancellation must be submitted (via Microsoft form) by the deadlines stated in our terms and conditions on our website. Technically the deadline for ceasing lessons in the Summer term was last Friday 5th February 2021. However, in light of these unprecedented circumstances we have extended the deadline until this Thursday 11th February 2021 5pm. Click here for the cancellation form.

On receipt of a cancellation, your child will then be removed from the timetable for the new term. However, if you submit a cancellation after the deadlines then we cannot process it in time so you will still be liable to pay the next term’s fees because the teacher will have already been booked. The cancellation methods stated above (Microsoft form) is the only accepted method to cancel lessons.

We are unable to give refunds mid- term as the teacher has already been booked and paid for the full term. Cancellations only take effect at the start of a new term providing the cancellation has been submitted by the deadlines.

    Many thanks

    Maria Neil-Smith

  • Adapting Fielding's curriculum

Mon 08 Feb 2021 Jamie Lewis

After the half-term break most children will continue to learn at home. Because of this we have changed the order of our learning challenge curriculum. Usually the learning follows the pattern of history or geography followed later in the term with art or design and technology (DT). Because we have not received any confirmation from Government about the return of most children to schools, instead of art or DT children will move on to the next planned history or geography challenge. They will then complete the art and DT in school when they return. This is because both art and DT are reliant on specific materials and resources that you may not have at home. We are also mindful of the pressures on family life at the moment and do not want to add to these.

For an overview of the knowledge and skills taught in each subject and in each year group please see our curriculum map which can be found on this webpage.
