Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
This week Fielding took teams to the Featherstone Hockey tournament and competed against 18 other teams. We played some great hockey and 1 of the teams finished the day in 3rd place, narrowly missing out on another area finals.
The SHA team also competed in their area finals this week as they competed for the chance to go to national competition at Crystal Palace later in the year. They missed out on that opportunity but they did finish as the 4th best team in the area.

Help your children navigate their way to the school's French page, where hours of French animations, games and songs await them.
It's the perfect way to immerse themselves in the language and feel more at ease with the different sounds and intonations in French. You'll be amazed to see how much they can understand!
On Thursday afternoon's children can be found in the school house busy demonstrating their new culinary skills in the ‘What’s for Tea?’ cooking club. During the hour long session the children make a healthy, nutritionally balanced dish to either eat at club or take home to share.
The smell that wafts from the kitchen on Thursday afternoon is absolutely divine.
The children are not the only ones eating well, the Muddy Hands gardening club have been busy making bird feeders from recycled bottles and fir cones. You can see our small-feathered friends snacking at the feeding stations, these are positioned in the growing area just outside the school office. A huge well done to all the children involved.
Excitement builds as the February Holiday Club approaches, on Thursday the children will be venturing into the magical Litten woods to take part in Forestry school activities. Would your child enjoy making dens, being creative in the mud kitchen or making things using the many natural resources available? After a busy day the children will finish the afternoon drinking hot chocolate around the campfire. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to use their imagination and learn more about the world we live in. The Blue Fox Forest School leader will be on hand to encourage creativity and support exploration.
So many fun activities and days out are planned for the children during Half term week.
Year 1 had an exciting delivery to classes this week! A large selection of brand new books have arrived and have been delivered to each class and are now in book corners waiting for our eager readers to try them out. Children have had the chance to choose and read the new books at different points this week and the feedback has all been positive. A child in 1H said, ‘I am very excited to read the new books as it is great to have such an amazing selection now. I am sure I will find lots more favourites to read.’
Many Year 1 children also visited the book fair last week. This gave them the opportunity to find great new books to purchase for home while helping the school to acquire new books to add to the libraries. A child in 1S stated, ‘I loved looking at all the different books on offer. It was really hard to choose the ones I wanted!’
As always, Fielding parents are being fantastic in the amount of times they are volunteering to help out on the numerous tournaments and competitions we have been going to. If your child is involved in a lot of sport with the school or you think that they could be in the future then it could be worth you speaking to the school office about completing out volunteer application pack and getting an Enhanced DBS check through the school. This would allow you to volunteer to accompany children on trips or even transport children via car on some occasions. If you have an Enhanced DBS through the school it could make transport to and from events for our children that much easier.
If you would like more information, please talk to the the school office.
This week, Year 5 were lucky enough to have the inflatable planetarium in the Sports hall which linked brilliantly with our out of space topic. Inside the planetarium, we were shown the exact shape and size of the moon at which we visited. All of year 5 found that fascinating as we recently found out that some of our children cannot see the moon from their house.
We also got the chance to learn about the star constellations and how they’re formed and why they’re named specific names and we even got to travel through space and visit Jupiter. The children were engaged and amazed at how real it felt and were sitting in absolute awe of what was happening around them. Finally, we got to see where Tim Peake spent half of the year and how he coped in the ISS.
Below are some quotes from the children of Year 5 on their experience in the planetarium.
“It was really interesting-it totally blew my mind”- Noah 5F
“It was really good, it felt realistic”- Matilda 5F
“I enjoyed it because it felt like we were actually travelling through space”- Zak 5H
“When I walked in, I just felt excited and it felt real; like I was actually in space”- Claudia 5H
“It was great, interesting….mind blowing!”- George 5S
“It was really factual and it looked really real” – Siham 5S
“ It was a fun and exciting experience because it felt realistic and we zoomed into the planets. It really felt like we were in a real space rocket.”- Serafina 5P
“I loved it because it was so realistic. I also loved that the videos were so realistic and the images zoomed in which totally blew my mind.”- Ian 5P
Thank you PTFA for helping us have this experience and allowing us to round up our Space unit in this amazing flight into Space.
Reminder that there will be no guitar lessons next week, and no guitar ensemble on Monday 6th Feb. Also, no flute or flute ensemble on Thursday 9th Feb .Tutors will ensure the correct number of lessons are given over the school year.
Harrison Catering have informed us that there are still a lot of children with a debt on their school meal account. They can be refused a meal until the account is in credit, and will ask that you provide you child with a packed lunch. Please contact Harrison's direct to make a payment.
Thank you to those parents who came into school on Wednesday to hear about how we measure your child's progress, and for their feedback and questions.
