  • Fed up with Lost Property?

    Thu 23 Feb 2017

    The lost property bins are full to capacity! Please check these bins for any property which may have been lost. If lost property is not claimed for by the end of March, all items will be disposed of.

    These wheelie bins are located at the end of the Year 3 block and at the end of the Year 1 block:

    • large blue bins for all lost jackets and coats
    • smaller red bins for jumpers and fleeces
    • smaller green bins for all other items.

    Please continue to label your children's clothes and other items as this is the quickest way to get their belongings back to them. Any named items will be delivered back to your child's class. There is no lost property at front office.

  • Ofsted Inspection, 21st February

    Mon 20 Feb 2017

    We have just told your child's school that we will inspect it on 21 February 2017. The lead inspector will be Amanda Carter-Fraser, HMI. We are writing to you because we would like to know what you think about the school. Please take a few minutes to read the leaflet which came with this letter. It explains why we inspect schools, and what happens during an inspection.

    Your views about the school are important to us

    If you are a registered parent or carer of a pupil at the school (including pupils on sick leave or who are temporarily excluded), you can tell us your views about the school by completing Ofsted's online survey, Parent View, at: www.parentview.ofsted.gov.uk.

    Parent View asks for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child's school, including the progress made by your child, the quality of teaching, how the school deals with bullying and poor behaviour. It also provides a free-text box for you to make additional comments, if you wish. The inspectors will use the online survey responses when inspecting your child's school. Written comments can also be sent to the school in a sealed envelope, marked confidential and addressed to the inspection team.

    To register your views, you will need to provide your email address, which will be held securely. It will not be used for any purpose other than providing access to the online survey. Neither schools nor Ofsted will have access to any email addresses.

    Please complete the online survey by noon on 21 February 2017 as this will give the inspection team more time to consider your views. However, we will consider all online responses that are completed during the inspection, although the free-text box facility will not be available after noon on 21 February 2017.

    Speaking to an inspector

    If you are unable to complete the online survey, it may be possible to speak to an inspector during the inspection, for instance at the start of the school day, or to pass on messages to the inspectors if you are unable to speak to them in person. Inspection administrators will be happy to make the necessary arrangements. If concerns are raised about child protection, we may have to pass the information we receive to social services or the police. You can contact the administrators on 03000131194. Inspectors will be pleased to receive your comments, but cannot deal with complaints about individual pupils or settle disputes between you and the school.

    Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the online survey.

    Yours faithfully

    Katie Vincent

    Ofsted Administrator

  • Annual Parent Survey Results

    Sat 11 Feb 2017

    Thank you for your responses to the Annual Parent Survey

    This year we had a fantastic response from 421 families representing 613 (65%) pupils, up from 565 pupils last year and 311 in 2014-15. You told us that the things you most like about Fielding are:

    • Teachers, our staff team and the high quality of their teaching, including ‘inspirational’ and ‘enthusiastic’ adults, excellent learning experiences and the ambition to get the very best out of every child (176 comments);
    • Values-based education, including the care and compassion that all adults show to children, our welcoming, friendly ethos and ‘holistic’ approach (71 comments);
    • Opportunities for sport, music, teams, variety of clubs and specialist teaching (51 comments);
    • Outdoor space and environment, including the field and all of our facilities (56 comments);
    • The size of the school and organisation, including a ‘small school feel’ but all the opportunities and benefits of size (28 comments);

    Parents would most like to change or improve:

    • Communication, especially the Laser calendar and wanting to know more about pupils’ learning (61 comments);
    • Clubs, including availability, booking arrangements and the Laser system (36 comments);
    • Playground behaviour and supervision (32 comments);
    • Homework, but a wide variety of views, ranging from some families wanting less or no homework to others wanting more (25 comments).

    We are delighted that our main strengths have been so positively recognised by parents. We will begin to consider the highlighted areas for improvement over the next few months. We also recognise that some parents have highlighted other individual strengths and areas for development.

  • Cygnus pip Orion at the post to win Hockey

    Fri 10 Feb 2017

    Cygnus claimed their second Constellation win of the year today by winning on the final day of this weeks tournament. It was very close all the way through the week, with Cygnus just getting to the top of the points table today after being second all week to Orion. Well done Cygnus for showing perseverance and determination to get the win. Thank you to all of the parents who braved the near arctic conditions to come and support the children. Hopefully the weather will be kinder for next half terms basketball tournament!

    Check out the scores, tables and photos on the PE Page.

  • Nursery places, September 2017

    Fri 10 Feb 2017

    Top priority for siblings and working parents

    Over 200 applications were made for children to start our new Nursery in September 2017.  From September 2017, our Nursery is offering flexible nursery places, up to 52 ½ hours per week between 7.30am and 6pm during school term-time and for 8 weeks of school holidays.  Nursery learning and childcare will match the extended school day offered to families and siblings at Fielding Primary School, especially designed to support local working parents.

    Our new Nursery offer enables our families to take advantage of the Government's 30 hours of free child-care offer for 3 and 4 year old children.

    All siblings have been offered the place of their choice, provided that they applied by the closing date deadline.  Morning sessions proved to be very popular with parents.  All morning places filled very quickly.  The remaining few afternoon places continue to be offered according to our admissions criteria.

    Applications received after the closing date, including from now, will be held on a waiting list with any places being offered as and when they arise according to our admissions criteria.

  • Year 4 Norman Day

    Thu 09 Feb 2017 Mr McConnachie

    Vive la Normans!

    The time has come. All peasants, surfs, farmers, merchants, artisans, knights, vassals, nobles and lords, your presence is required at this year’s Norman Day! The day’s activities will consist of all things Norman, including, French lessons, castle building, and an epic battle re-enactment culminating in one massive mannequin challenge. You must attend the day’s festivities in full costume and be ready to bounce in a castle for the King’s enjoyment. Please be prepared to declare all of your possessions for King Dunmall’s Doomsday 2 Survey.

    With a curious view towards the approaching end of winter, Year 4 has been warming up February by studying to process of melting. Working scientifically, they have planned and carried out investigations into various states of matter and discovered that fat separates from water and chocolate can be enjoyed as a liquid and a solid!

    As part of our staying safe PSHE unit we have been discussing E safety again and would like to remind everyone of the risks associated with social media usage and internet access across all devices, including gaming consoles. Remember to check the NSPCC website for a review of most of the popular apps being used today if you are unsure. Finally, road safety has concluded with Ms Timmins’ fabulous rendition of the Safe Cross Code song which all the children absolutely loved. Perhaps they could perform the dance routine for you this half term?? Have a safe and happy half term!
