  • Reception end of day collection points change

Fri 04 Sep 2020 Kristien Webb

Reception afternoon collection points need to change so that we can better socially distance. Collection this afternoon was too crowded with not enough space for adults to keep their distance when collecting children.

    From Monday afternoon, please can:

    • RH pupils be collected from the sports hall, doors located just before the Reception gates (Wyndham Road) side.
    • RS pupils be collected from the Reception corridor door which opens out onto the Nursery playground.  To avoid gathering close to the gates can RS parents/carers please make a socially distanced line along the Reception building.
    • Classes RF and RP will continue to be collected from their classroom doors.  RF families arriving and exiting via the Wyndham Road gates. RP families arriving and exiting via the Coombe Road gates.
    • Morning drop off arrangements remain the same.

After your child has been collected please do not gather in groups or allow pupils to play on the playground provision.  The playground needs to be cleared as soon as possible after 3.30pm because the area is used for After School Club.

We would like to thank you in advance for the support in implementing these changes.

  • Year 4 drop-off and collection points change

Thu 03 Sep 2020 Peter Dunmall

Year 4 morning drop-off and afternoon collection points need to change so that we can better socially distance. Collection this afternoon was too crowded with not enough space for adults to keep their distance when collecting children.

    From Friday morning, please can:

    • Classes 4H and 4F continue to be dropped-off and collected from the marked Year 4 entrance. There is no change for these classes.
    • Classes 4P and 4S change to be dropped-off and collected from the Wyndham Road playground dining room entrance door, next to Year 3 classrooms. Up until now, this entrance is not used. Signs will show you where it is tomorrow. Please use Wyndham Road vehicle gate as our preferred route.

Your on-going support and understanding is appreciated.

  • Finding out what your child knows and remembers, assessment this term

Thu 03 Sep 2020 Clare Haines

Your child’s class teacher will be assessing your child’s learning during the first few weeks of term. This is to help us carefully plan our teaching so that any gaps that may have arisen due to school closure can be closed. In Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 children will take part in the NFER reading and mathematics assessments that they would have completed in the summer term had they been at school.

Find out more here about how we assess your children’s learning and share their progress with you:

Teachers in all year groups will also be assessing children’s writing ability and reading fluency (this includes phonics for children in reception, Year 1 and 2).

The government have asked us to administer the annual phonics check that should have taken place in June to children in Year 2 this term. This will take place after the October break. Any children who do not meet the required standard will have take part in catch-up teaching and will re-sit the phonics check in June.

Your child’s class teacher will upload the outcomes of their assessments to My Child at School (MCAS). These will be available to view from 30th September. Find out how to access your child’s assessments here:

You will have an opportunity to discuss these outcomes via a virtual parents consultation meeting, on the 5th or 12th of October. These will take place on Microsoft Teams. You can book your appointment on MCAS from 10am on 14th September. Find out more:

  • Get ready for parent consultation meetings by video conference

Thu 03 Sep 2020 Peter Dunmall

Parent consultation meetings will be held this term by video conference using Microsoft Teams. Every child at school has their own Microsoft Office account. Your child's class teacher will use Teams and your child's account to see you by video conference.

6 simple steps to get ready for your parent consultation video conference meeting.

    Before parent consultation appointments

    1. Get started with Microsoft Teams. Skip this, if you already use Teams.
      1. Use a web search to find out more about getting started with Teams on your desktop, portable or mobile device;
      2. or, follow our 'How to video' to get started on a desktop or portable device.
    2. Use your child's school Microsoft account and login to Teams. Every child has their own account and belongs to a class 'team', managed by their class teacher. Skip this if you have already logged in using your child's account.
      1. Read our '3 reasons why you need your Microsoft Teams' article;
      2. Log into Teams to check that everything works for you at home, work or while on the move;
      3. If you've got more than one child, please check each child's account.
    3. From 14 September, make your parent consultation appointment(s) on Bromcom using MyChildatSchool (MCAS) by desktop or mobile MCAS app. If you've got more than one child, please spread your appointments out, giving enough time for you to switch child accounts and allow for a little over-run by teachers.

    Parent consultation appointment day

    1. Log in to Teams using your child's account for your first meeting.
    2. Join the Parent Consultation meeting in Teams from the Calendar icon or from the Posts section.
    3. Wait in the 'lobby' for the teacher to be ready to see you and join you.
    4. Finish your meeting, leave and log-out. If needed, switch accounts for your next child and repeat, ready for your next child's teacher.

Behind the scenes, each class teacher has one long meeting running for each morning or evening session. Parents join the meeting using their child's account and wait in a virtual 'lobby' for other parents to finish their meeting. The teacher will know you are there and join you when they are ready. We will record the meetings and keep this for 21 days. This will help us resolve any concerns or complaints.

  • 3 reasons why you need to access your child’s Microsoft Teams log-in details.

Thu 03 Sep 2020 Clare Haines
    1. To access this term’s virtual parent, teacher consultation meetings (and sharing assemblies)
    2. To access remote learning in the event of full or partial closure
    3. For children to submit home learning, eg reading reflections

From Friday 11th September you will be able to download your child’s Microsoft log-in details from the report section of MCAS

    Parent consultations

Parent consultations this term will be take place via Microsoft Teams. Please see this news article for more details:

    Our approach to remote learning

Schools have been asked to plan to provide remote learning in the case of a local lockdown or if a ‘bubble’ is asked to self-isolate. There should be no interruption to children’s learning.

    Nursery and Reception

Children in our Nursery and Reception will be set learning activities by their class teachers via our Instagram sites. Links to these will be posted on our year groups noticeboards.

    Years 1 to 6

Microsoft Teams is our chosen digital education platform. Over the coming weeks and months children will become familiar with Microsoft Teams as their teacher begins to use it as a tool in the classroom.

Each class has a ‘team’. Each class member will be able to log-in to this team and will be able to see all ‘posts’ from this team and join their teacher for planned video conferencing.

In the event of any closure, your child will be asked to log into Teams to access links to  Oak National Academy English and maths video lessons. These will be linked to work set by your child’s class teacher. Your child will complete work set in their own private section of the ‘class notebook’. The class teacher will assess your child’s work and then invite him or her to live video feedback sessions with up to 5 of their classmates.

The number of live feedback sessions offered to your child  will vary by age group, with the aim to have one session per day with their teacher, and a timetable to work to when they are not directly involved in a video conference.

For safeguarding purposes, all sessions will be recorded and saved on the school’s secure cloud-based server. By joining the meeting, you are giving consent for your child to be recorded on Microsoft Teams.

The Oak National Academy have listened to feedback and have worked hard over the summer to completely rerecord all their lessons. These pre-recorded video lessons are recommended by the government for schools to use. Lessons are blocked and link to the intended outcomes of the National Curriculum. This means our teachers can select the block or unit of work that directly links to our Fielding curriculum and sequence of teaching without any interruption to your child’s learning.

Teachers will also set work linked to the Fielding Learning Challenge that the children are working on at the time.

    Be prepared

Check your child can login to Microsoft Teams, and access their calendar and their Outlook inbox.  Both can be accessed through Office.com. To do this you should:

    1. Download your child’s Microsoft log in details from MyChildAtSchool (MCAS). Details can found in the ‘report widget’ on MCAS.
    2. Watch our short How to Log on to Microsoft Teams video
    3. Login to Office 365 using your child’s email and password. (Your child’s username is in the format of an email address. For example:  firstname.surname.21307@o365.fieldingprimary.com
    4. Please add a profile picture to your child’s account, by clicking your initials in the top right-hand corner and then clicking ‘change picture’.

We will supply further details about your child’s learning at home and how to access it, if we need to move from face to face to virtual teaching. In the meantime, you might like to watch this short video by Mrs Bumby on how your child can access and use the Microsoft Teams tools in video calls:

    Using Teams for home learning

Over this term we will ask children to complete some of their home learning on Microsoft Teams in the ‘class notebook’. This is so that they are prepared if we need to use it during a school closure.

  • Happy children return to school

Thu 03 Sep 2020 Peter Dunmall

Happy pupils returned to school today, welcomed to new classes by their teachers. Visiting every classroom this morning, I was met with smiling pupils and a hum of activity. Children told us that they felt "nervous but excited", "happy to see their friends" and, a sign of return to normal, with a Year 6 pupil wanting to "ace their SATS".

Teachers helped pupils understand new routines and expectations blended with our usual routines. Year 1 and 2 pupils watched a hand-washing video. Year 3 shared a 'brain-break' as part of our usual mindfulness approach.

Reception joiners, starting school for the first time, were waved off at classroom doors by parents. They settled quickly into school life, sitting on the classroom carpet area together, looked after by their teachers and support staff. A few children had some tears, missing mum or dad, and welcomed a reassuring hug from their class teacher.

Nursery joiners, after a short staggered start outside, were straight into play and learning activities. Some dressed up in the role play area, others drawing, reading on the carpet or starting to recognise numbers with the help of an adult.

Nearly every pupil has returned to school on the first day back with most classes full and teachers welcoming every child back. Some children, rightly, have stayed at home as a result of travel overseas and quarantine requirements.

A steady flow of adults and children came through our entrance gates from 8.30am, keeping to social distancing rules. We are relying on your discretion to social distance rather than trying to herd you with time slots, queues and one-way systems at drop-off and collection. All pupils look smart wearing Fielding uniform. Remember, 'summer' uniform may be worn until October half-term. Thanks to all parents for supporting and meeting our expectations.

  • Clubs and childcare locations

    Wed 02 Sep 2020

Childcare and specialist clubs return today in there year group bubbles, working with the schools Covid-19 risk assessments.

Please check the specialist club overview on the website for locations. Reception, Year 1 and 2 pupils (key-stage 1) will be collected from their classrooms, with all older pupils from Year 3 upwards (key-stage 2) making their way to their allocated year group classroom for childcare or specialist club.

Year group childcare will be split and held in the following locations.:

    • Reception Classroom (green gate along from the school office)
    • Year 1 classroom
    • Year 2 classroom
    • Year 3, 4 main hall (divided) year 4 usual main door, year 3, opposite door by school office
    • Year 5, 6 dining halls (divided) collect from year 3 playground dining room door

Children must be collected from these locations at home time, please look for the bubble sign outside the door. Although pick up time stays flexible do remember to collect and go.

This term most specialist clubs take place outdoors, indoor clubs are in the sports hall or year 3 classrooms except for reception language clubs taking place in a reception classroom.  If you would like further information please email childcare@fielding.ealing.sch.uk
