  • Volunteers needed on a Friday to accompany pupils to the swimming pool

    Thu 09 Sep 2021 Daniel Thomas

    You might be aware we are starting catch up swimming lessons for children in Year 4, 5 and 6 who currently cannot swim 25m. This is a National Curriculum requirement that children leave school able to swim that distance but it is also an important life skill that we feel all children should possess. Some of the children that are currently identified as non-swimmers do not have opportunities outside of school to be able to learn how to swim so it is extremely important we are able to provide those opportunities as best we can.

    This is where we need your help.

    Each week, we need 3 parent volunteers to accompany one of our HLTA’s to and from Everyone Active Acton (the swimming pool). Ideally this would be the same 3 volunteers who were able to commit to a block of 6 lessons before a new set of volunteers were able to commit to the following block of 6 lessons. Your child does not need to be in the group of swimmers in order for you to volunteer you just need to be willing to help us provide the opportunity to learn to whichever group are going.

    Swimmers leave school at 10.30am each Friday starting on the 17th September to travel via coach. Volunteers would meet outside the school reception to walk children along Wyndham Road to the coach which will be parked at Coombe Road. When we arrive at the pool, volunteers help supervise the children as we walk into the centre and to the changing rooms. Volunteers would then sit in the poolside viewing area for the swimming lesson between 11.30 – 12.00pm before helping to supervise the children change back into dry clothes so we are ready to leave on the coach at 12.30pm. We will then be arriving back at Fielding just before 1.00pm.

    At no point will parent volunteers be alone with children in any of the changing areas.

    It is a really important opportunity that we want to be able to offer our children so if you are able to give up some of your Friday morning on a regular basis it would be hugely appreciated by the school and the children.

    If you can volunteer some time to help, please complete the form linked below:

    Many thanks in advance.

  • Fielding It’s time to sing again: book the Young Voices Club now to perform at the 02 Arena!

    Wed 08 Sep 2021 Maria Neil-Smith

    Young voices club for Years 5 & 6 pupils will be held in the music room on Mondays between 3:30-4:30. Book now on MCAS so you don’t miss out!

    Young Voices is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn and perform a range of songs in a concert at the 02 arena with other schools. Fielding pupils who have been before have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The concert will be at the end of January or beginning of February in the 02 so this club prepares them for this event. The club will run every Monday throughout the Autumn term. In previous years, the senior choir would go but this year it is being offered to any pupils in Years 5 & 6 who would like to participate in this wonderful event. This means that Senior choir will resume in the spring and summer terms therefore senior choir members will need to book the Young Voices club if they wish to participate in the 02 concert. If your child would like to attend the club please book by Thursday 16th September on MCAS. Rehearsals will start on Monday 20th September. Please note if we do not meet the minimum numbers for this club we will not be able to run it. In the event this happens we will refund the club and inform you by Friday 17th September.

  • PTFA: Getting to know other parents in your child's class

    Wed 08 Sep 2021 School Office

    Fielding prides itself on its community atmosphere. However, the past 18 months of Covid restrictions has meant that many parents joining the school over the last two years have not really had a chance to get to know each other - or match them to the pupils' names in their own child's class.  WhatsApp groups can be daunting and the opportunity to chat at the school gates difficult.

    That is why the PTFA uses a platform called ClassList which allows parents to see who else is in their son/daughter's class.  ClassList also doubles up as a communications function for the PTFA for news, events and fundraising efforts. You'll also be able to find out who your Class Rep is (although we have a few gaps across the school) and hear from parents about where last year's £30,000 is being spent.

    ClassList can be downloaded as an app or used via a web browser.  You can decide how regularly you want to receive information - normally a weekly email on a Thursday will suffice.

    Any questions can be sent to fieldingPTFA@gmail.com
  • PTFA: Kick-off meeting Monday 13 September

    Wed 08 Sep 2021 School Office

    The PTFA will hold its first online meeting for this academic year on Monday 13 September to welcome new parents, new reps and updates on PTFA spending commitments.

    We'll be talking about events planned for the year ahead including the return of Happy's Circus.  We'll also provide updates on GiftAid contributions and where we still need support.

    The morning session with Mr Dunmall will start at 10am via zoom (register at https://bit.ly/3g461Kv) whilst the evening session will start at 8.30pm also via zoom (register at https://bit.ly/3iorjUF).

    We ask that all Class Reps attend, but of course any parent is welcome as we will be giving an overview of our activities.  Any questions in advance can be sent to Nolan at fieldingPTFA@gmail.com

  • Swimming Plans for Years 4, 5 and 6

    Fri 03 Sep 2021 Dan Thomas

    In the summer term we sent out a survey to Year 3, 4 and 5 parents to find out about your children's swimming abilities. Thank you to the 302 responses we received that have been very useful in helping us to start planning what swimming will look like.

    We sent out the survey to find out which children were already confident swimmers and which were not as this year we are only offering swimming lessons to those that need it most. If you have a child in Years 4, 5 or 6 but have not completed the survey your child will not be offered any swimming lessons.

    I will send the survey out to parents again via email so that if you have missed it you can complete as soon as you can so that your child can be invited to swimming lessons later in the year.

    We will be taking 32 children for lessons and will include children from different classes and sometimes different year groups. The lessons will take place at Acton Leisure Centre where children will be split into 3 groups with each group being led by a different swimming coach. The group will be led by an HLTA and will travel via coach to and from Acton Leisure Centre. Lessons will take place on a Friday between 11.30 - 12.00 which means we will leave school at 10.30 and return at 1.00.

    We do need 2 parent volunteers to accompany us each week to and from the lessons so if you are able to help us out that would be very much appreciated. If you can volunteer you must have completed a volunteer form via this link:

    If your child is one of the first 32 children you will receive a letter via email on Monday with information about the first set of lessons.

    If your child is not in the first group of learners you will receive a letter on Monday via email confirming you are on the waiting list for lessons.

    We did receive some survey responses that were anonymous and so if you have completed a survey but do not receive a letter on Monday then could you please complete another survey and ensure that you include your child's name in the first question.

    Thanks and see you all on Monday!

  • Cooking curriculum contribution £12

    Fri 03 Sep 2021 Jane Peterson

    We are very proud to provide a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to attend cooking sessions. These take place within the school house kitchen with their class teacher during the school day. An annual voluntary contribution of £12.00 has been added to MCAS to cover the cost of ingredients, required to supplement the fresh ingredients provided from the school garden. This fee covers sessions for the whole school year, from September 2021 until July 2022. This fee is voluntary, however, without the continued support of our parents, we would be unable to provide an opportunity such as this for our pupils. To make payment, please log into your MCAS account. The fee can be found by clicking on the left-hand-side menu bar and clicking on 'products', then 'voluntary contributions'.

  • What will your child be learning this year at school?

    Fri 03 Sep 2021 Clare Haines

    Our curriculum is designed so that pupils develop their knowledge and skills in each of the National Curriculum subjects. Alongside this we intend for our pupils to learn about the concepts of:

    • good health;
    • climate;
    • infrastructure;
    • democracy;
    • equality;
    • innovation;
    • sustainability.

    These 'Golden Threads' and our 4 core values are weaved through the children's learning. The Golden Threads have been updated for this year, each one is based on at least  one of the UN sustainable development goals.

    As well as regular updates on each year group noticeboard about English and mathematics, you  can also find out what your child is learning in other subjects and where the Golden Threads fit in, by looking at our curriculum maps:

    (Please note, these documents are  saved in .pdf format. They are A0 in size and not intended for printing. You will need to download and zoom). These have been updated for this academic year. We will continue to update and refine them as children move through the school, gaining more skills and knowledge.

    Each year group has a yearly overview which maps out what will be taught when. The must-know knowledge and skills for each 'learning challenge' is carefully mapped out on our knowledge organisers.

    Later on today (Friday 3rd), you will be able to find the updated overviews and knowledge organisers for your child's year group here:
