Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
At Fielding Primary School, we are proud of our Values-based Ethos that under pins all that we do. To further develop our children’s use of Values, we have developed our Fielding Values Baccalaureate. This was modified this year after our Values action pupil group designed three levels that meant the children had to gradually apply their Values in more depth. This is aimed at Years 4-6 pupils and further guidance and the task sheets can now be found on the Values page of the website.
We are now particularly excited to announce the very first recipient of the Silver level of the Fielding Values Baccalaureate: Hassan in 6S.
Hassan has worked tirelessly during Autumn term to earn his Values Baccalaureate. His tasks have included:
Hassan has been so engaged with achieving his silver level and shared his enjoyment of it by saying: “I liked the Values Baccalaureate as I liked helping other people and it has also helped me to be a better person inside and outside school.”
He recommends other children do it as, “It’s really cool because it means people can get more into Values.”
Hassan is a true role model for our Values-based Education and his evidence for his tasks will be used to inspire other children. He is now starting to work towards his Gold level. Please see link below to get going. We are aware of other children working towards the Silver level and can’t wait to see who achieves it next.

Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will carry out a joint inspection of our local area from Monday 21 January to Friday 25 January 2019. The inspection is not focusing on Fielding. This inspection will evaluate London Borough of Ealing’s effectiveness in:
During this inspection, the inspectors will collect information about children and young people in the area. They will be looking at local area records, speaking to area officers and leaders at educational settings, and speaking to children, young people and parents or carers.
Whilst Fielding has not been identified for a visit, colleagues in the Local Authority and the inspectors would like you to be aware of the inspection and to take the opportunity to participate.
Please see a letter to parents from the inspection team, also available in Learning, SEND on our website:
Our first Parent and Carer drop-in for 2019 will be held on Thursday 7th February between 9:00am and 10:00am, in the school house.
We will be joined by Daniela Lacovella from Child Bereavement UK. Daniela will be able to offer guidance, share resources and answer any questions relating to family bereavement.
At the start of each term we ask you to check that your child's health care plan is up-to-date on Laser. This completed plan stores helpful details about your child’s current conditions including any medicines, triggers, individual symptoms and what to do in an emergency. The plan will help school staff to have a better understanding of your child’s individual condition. It is therefore vital that we are kept informed about any changes to your child’s medical needs.
To update your child's plan:
If you have any questions please arrange to speak to Ms Lacey our welfare assistant who will be happy to help you.
The Department for Education (DfE) requires all schools to publish their own complaints procedure. We hope that you rarely feel the need to complain about the quality of our work. However, if needed, our complaints procedure is published in the Our School, Policies section of the school website.
Some parents have used social media to raise concerns, sometimes making references to other pupils. School staff have no input in informal parent social media groups and we do not monitor these channels. Concerns are best directed to school staff.
The complaints procedure places greatest emphasis on resolving any concern or complaint informally and quickly.

In the event of any adverse winter weather, including snow, we will make every effort again this year to keep school open as usual. I will take the decision to close school reluctantly and only if it is not safe for us to operate. My decision will include the availability of staff as a result of travel disruption; the warmth of the school as a result of any heating or energy failure and availability of hot and cold water as a result of any burst pipes.
We will publish any decision to close the school by 7am via Twitter including a direct link to the front page of the school website. We will send a second message via Laser.
I usually ask staff to make a reasonable attempt to travel to school in the snow, including leaving earlier and making alternative travel arrangements if needed. Staff will work flexibly, covering teachers who are unavoidably absent. Priority will be given to all classes having at least one adult. Specialist teaching and teacher’s release from class may be suspended. A key factor is the availability of public transport and school closures for staff with their own children. In the event of heavy snow during the school day, we may send individual teachers home early, covering their class until the end of school. We will allow staff members to bring their own primary age children into school if needed.
During cold weather, we usually open some classrooms on the ground during morning and lunch break times so that pupils can have a rest from the cold if they wish. We may take ‘cold breaks’ inside classrooms for all children if the temperature falls very low.
I will write again if snow is forecast to remind everyone of our arrangements.
The DfE has launched a new 'passport' of activities, mirroring the principles behind Fielding's own Values baccalaureate, to enrich children's experiences and skills, backed by the Scouts, Girlguiding and National Trust
Primary school children are challenged to go on a nature trail, visit a local landmark or make a treasure map through a new ‘passport’ of activities launched by the Education Secretary to encourage more family time and help build children’s character and resilience.
Endorsed by organisations including the Scouts, Girlguiding and the National Trust – as well as children’s charity Action for Children - the list of activities is intended to support parents and schools in introducing children to a wide variety of experiences and fulfilling activities like flying a kite, learning something new about the local area or putting on a performance.
