  • KS2 Author visit- Lou Kuenzler, Thursday 27th February

    Fri 14 Feb 2020

On Thursday 27tFebruary, we are planning an exciting event for the children in Years 3, 4 ,5 and 6. Lou Kuenzler, author of, ‘The Incredible Shrinking girl’ and ‘Finding Black Beauty’ will be visiting the school to talk about her books. Lou visits many schools and we are delighted that she is visiting us, especially so close to World Book Day. She will be talking to the children to provide inspiration for their own creative writing and enthusing them about the joy of reading. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for the children to buy a book and have it dedicated to them and signed by Lou. A signed book can be a permanent reminder of a special experience and can reinforce the message about the importance of reading. If you would like to purchase a book for your child, please could you send in £5 (cash only please) in a clearly marked envelope. They will be able to choose the book on the day. The following books will be available.

Princess Disgrace - 4 in series

Bella Broom Stick- 5 in series

  • World Book Day celebrations- Thursday 5th March

    Tue 11 Feb 2020

World Book Day is fast approaching and this year, on Thursday 5th March, we'd like the children to be inspired by their love of vocabulary. This has been a real focus across the school this year and so, we invite children and staff to come dressed as a word. Some pupils might want to dress as a favourite book character and add a word to their costume to reflect that character. Others might want to gather clothes from indoors, representing a word. The choice is yours. A quick web search 'world book day dress up as a word' might give some ideas and inspiration:

To prepare for World Book Day, we will be welcoming visits from two children's authors. Lou Kuenzler will be be visiting children in KS2 on Thursday 27th February and Andrew Weale will be joining classes in Nursery, Reception and KS1 on Wednesday 4th March. Further details on how books can be purchased by these two authors will be provided soon.

  • Does your child use social media? - a couple of helpful tips for staying safe online

Mon 10 Feb 2020 Clare Haines

As we head towards the half-term break its a useful time to check your child's devices for parental controls.

Internet matters is a useful website that shows you how to set up controls on your child's devices:

#Goldilocks is a modern twist on the classic fairy tale that offers a fun and accessible way for you to discuss all things social media related with your younger children.  The book is designed to help educate children about the potential consequences of being unkind, getting carried away with selfies, or oversharing images, as we see Goldilocks getting into trouble with the three bears over her pursuit of likes on social media….

  • Annual parent survey results

Fri 07 Feb 2020 Clare Haines

Thank you for sharing your views in our annual parent survey. It was lovely to read some of your very positive comments about our school. We are delighted that our main strengths have been so positively recognised by parents. Your feedback is highly valued. The Governing Body and school leaders will begin to consider the highlighted areas for improvement over the next few months. We also recognise that some parents have highlighted other individual strengths and areas for development.

Read the summary and the year-on-year comparison here::

Some parents felt that we could improve the way we communicate, some wanting communication channels to be more streamlined and others wanting more information on what pupils learn and the progress their child makes.

I hope you will find the links at the top of each year group noticeboard useful for finding out what your child is learning.

As we further develop our new way of assessing progress we will continue to share information about your child’s achievements with you, this includes continuing to sending books home each term. We  plan to move more of our communication across to MCAS.

Many of you shared your views about healthy eating and the food offer throughout the school day. We will be working on this with the Governing Body over the next couple of terms.

  • Values in February

    Fri 07 Feb 2020 L Stabler

February sees the Core Value focus coming back to Resilience with Key Stage 2 looking at the linked value of Optimism. These are very important values to develop in our children as they are about encouraging the pupils to not give up, embrace challenges and see the positives when things seem difficult.

Nursery and Reception pupils are also learning about the value of Resilience to carry on building a deeper understanding after being introduced to this value in January. They will be introduced to the connected vocabulary of trying and patience.

We are also still encouraging all pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 to demonstrate their values at school, at home and in the local community by completing Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of our Values Baccalaureate.

Please continue to talk about our Values with your children as they help them develop both morally and support their academic work. Please see our Values page and the specific webpages on Resilience for our resources, including Values Baccalaureate task cards.
