  • Your child's annual report

    Thu 11 Jun 2020 Clare Haines

    From the afternoon of Tuesday 16th June your child’s Annual Report will be available to view on My Child at School (MCAS).

    Your child’s report has been written by the class teacher they had for the Autumn and Spring term. Teachers have reported on the first two terms of this year only. Attendance has been reported up to the 20th March 2020.

    Reports will appear in the ‘reports’ section of MCAS, below any other reports your child might already have.

    Please see the latest assessment update for more information and FAQs.

  • Guidance for work emailed to teachers

    Thu 11 Jun 2020 Laura Stabler

    Thank you to all the parents who have been sending in their children's work via email.  It has been wonderful to see the effort and care pupils have taken over their learning.

    Some parents have asked for a little more guidance on what should and shouldn't be emailed.

    Teachers will respond within 3 school days to your emails. So if emailed on a Friday, you will get a response by Wednesday.

    Feedback will be inline with the school feedback policy.

    Once your child has completed their learning at home, work can be emailed to the teacher responsible for their class  using the following guidance :

    • once a week, send the application tasks for English and maths. Daily Oak lesson work does not need to be sent;
    • application tasks to be emailed in just 1 email if possible. Multiple photographs can make emails too big, so choose just 1-2 photos of each task;
    • foundation subject application tasks can be sent once both tasks are complete so they are in just 1 email. These tasks are for subjects like science, geography and history;
    • optional work from Oak academy lessons like Latin and history work does not need to be emailed in;
    • include the first name and surname name of the child on the email so it is clear who the work belongs to;
    • if your child is Year 1 or Year 6 and you have chosen to keep them at home, please compete the learning on Year group noticeboards as before (these will still be updated weekly) and follow the same guidance from above;
    • if your child is in Reception and they are learning at home, continue to use the Year Group Noticeboard with links to Instagram, YouTube and phonics teaching resources;

    Work for pupils in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 will continue to be explained in weekly YouTube video messages from the teacher responsible for that class.

    Teachers in Reception ,Year 1 and Year 6 will no longer be publishing a weekly video or the Oak Academy worksheets.

  • Summer holiday childcare club

    Wed 10 Jun 2020 Clare Haines

    Holiday club, Nursery and Reception to Year 6

    We are planning to open holiday club for 5 weeks over the summer holiday break. The children of key workers will be prioritised first.

    Due to current social distancing measures we will not be able to run our holiday club in the same way as we have done in the past. Children will be assigned to a bubble.  Maximum number, each day in each bubble will be 15 children. In Nursery this will be 8 children.

    Sessions:

    Dates: Wednesday 22nd July - Friday 21st August

    Times: Monday- Thursday, 8am -6pm and Friday 8am -1pm

    Fees:

    Nursery:

    Whole week: £280

    Daily rate: £65

    Friday: £45

    Reception to Year 6:

    Whole week; £190

    Daily rate: £45

    Fridays: £30

    Booking

    Key worker bookings for the summer period will need to be completed by 26th June at 11:15am.  We would prefer parents to book whole weeks of care wherever possible, however we know that this might not fit with working patterns and will try to meet the demands of all.

    Once key worker parents have booked the childcare they require we will then open the remaining spaces to all parents.

    Booking should be made on our online booking form in the first instance, this will allow us to plan groups and staffing. A link will be emailed to key workers who have registered with us, please look out for it. Once booked you will be  invited to complete a further booking on MCAS. At this point you will charged and payment should be made, instructions will follow. This is non-refundable.

    Please complete the booking form for each of your children separately

    We will release additional spaces to all parents week beginning 6th July.

  • Year 1 pupils returned to school

    Mon 08 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Two-thirds of Year 1 pupils returned to school today. Most Year 1 classes welcomed 10-12 pupils back to school. A few classes had lower numbers. Pupils told us that it was 'strange' coming back to a new class and teacher but most felt 'excited' and 'happy' to be back to school.

    Thanks to all parents who followed social distancing measures at morning drop-off. A longer 'soft-start' time of half-an-hour and use of preferred entrance / exit gates helped keep everyone safely spread out. Teachers greeted pupils on arrival with half welcoming pupils to new rooms and a new teacher. Everyone found their new classroom, joining their 'Sirius' or 'Canopus' class group.

    Year 6 and Reception pupils continue to come to school. Around 4 out of 5 of these pupils are back in school, higher in Reception than Year 6. Children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable continued to come to their childcare groups, named after planets.

    Pupils stay in their class group 'bubble' with their teacher and teaching assistant (for some classes where pupils have additional needs). Class group 'bubbles' of up to 15 with staggered breaks, own play zones, lunchtimes and own resources help reduce the risk of any coronavirus infection spreading.

    Pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 who are still at home can return to school at any time. Parents make a judgement about risk and decide whether to send their child to school. There maybe higher risks where families are from a black or minority ethnic group background and/or live with vulnerable family members in the household. There are no fines for pupils who are persistently absent from school.

    Pupils in school and at home follow a similar curriculum, based around the Oak National Academy, to minimise gaps between pupils. In school, there is an increased focus on personal hygiene, including regular hand-washing and 'catch-it, kill-it, bin-it' when sneezing or coughing.

  • School re-opens to Year 1 pupils

    Thu 04 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    School re-opens from Monday 8 June to pupils in Year 1. School looks and feels different, including closing to all pupils every Friday at lunchtime.

    Around 80% of pupils in Reception and Year 6 have already returned to school. Typically, class group 'bubbles' are welcoming 11-14 pupils each day. Children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable also continue to be in childcare with numbers increasing to over 90 children each day.

    For Year 1 pupils returning to school, many will be taught by a new teacher because class sizes are halved. New class groups called 'Sirius' and 'Canopus' are part of our temporary arrangements. Smaller class groups, staggered times, picnic style lunches, separate play zones and limited use of classroom resources are in place to reduce the risk of any coronavirus infection being spread:

    Parents decide if or when their Year 1, Reception or Year 6 child returns to school. Families who are black or minority ethnic backgrounds, those living with elderly relatives or a household member who is extremely vulnerable may decide that the risk of infection from returning to school is too high. There are no fines for persistent absence from school. Learning in school will be based on the Oak National Academy programme to minimise gaps between those in school and those who stay at home.

    The government has not announced any more details about other pupils returning to school. Nursery, Years 2, 3, 4 & 5 continue to learn at home with the support of new teachers. Teachers have changed because more are needed to work in school where class sizes have been halved.

  • Coronavirus: What to do if ...

    Thu 04 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Practical steps to reduce the risk of coronavirus being transmitted in school are in place. All of our measures are based on the latest government guidance for primary schools:

    Our measures mean that we can minimise but not prevent the risk of coronavirus in school. The following 'what if's' are taken from our risk assessment and operational guide for staff.

    What if my child has symptoms of coronavirus at home?

    Pupils who show symptoms of coronavirus should not be sent to school. If a child becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste of smell (anosmia), parents should follow the government's guidance. This includes:

    • self-isolating for 7 days;
    • arranging to have a test to see if they have COVID-19. This can be done by visiting NHS.UK or contact NHS 119 via telephone for those with no internet access;
    • household members should self-isolate for 14 days.

    Read more:

    All children and members of their households in England have access to testing if they display symptoms of coronavirus, including children under 5. A positive test will ensure rapid action to protect other children and staff at school.

    Where the child tests negative, they can return to school and household members can end their self-isolation.

    What if a child or adult shows symptoms of coronavirus in school?

    If anyone in school becomes unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste of smell (anosmia), they will be sent home and advised to follow the government's guidance. This includes:

    • self-isolating for 7 days;
    • arranging to have a test to see if they have COVID-19. This can be done by visiting NHS.UK or contact NHS 119 via telephone for those with no internet access;
    • household members should self-isolate for 14 days.

    Read more:

    All staff and pupils who attend school will have access to a test if they display symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19), and are encouraged to get tested in this scenario.

    Where the child or staff member tests negative, they can return to school and household members can end their self-isolation.

    While a child is awaiting collection, they will be moved to our Welfare Room, kept in isolation and supervised by a member of staff wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). The child will have access to their own bathroom. The bathroom and Welfare Room will then be cleaned and disinfected using standard cleaning products before being used by anyone else.

    What if there is a confirmed case of coronavirus in school?

    If a child or staff member tests positive, the rest of their class group 'bubble' will be sent home and advised to self-isolate for 14 days.

    The other household members of that wider class group do not need to self-isolate unless the child or staff member they live with in that group develops symptoms.

    As part of the national test and trace programme, if other cases are detected within the cohort or in the school, Public Health England’s local health protection teams will conduct a rapid investigation and will advise the school on the most appropriate action to take.

    What if a member of staff is contacted through test, track and trace?

    The staff member is expected to self-isolate for 14 days, following government guidance and expectations.

    If the staff member is a teacher, the class group 'bubble' will learn at home for 14 days.

    In some cases a larger number of other children may be asked to self-isolate at home as a precautionary measure. Closure of the whole school will not generally be necessary.

  • Return to school uniform

    Mon 01 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Your choice of Fielding school uniform as pupils return to school. Reception, Year 6, Year 1 pupils and children joining childcare are welcome to wear our winter uniform, summer uniform or PE day uniform on any day to suit parents or children:

    We want to give parents as much flexibility as we can. We suggest wearing PE uniform on a Friday where the school closes every week at lunchtime to all pupils. We recognise that while the school has been closed, children have grown. Parents may not want to purchase new uniform at this point in the school year. We are trying to give you as much flexibility as we can while maintaining a sense of unity and standards.

    Please keep to black, closed-toe shoes. Where feet have grown and shops have been closed, there is some flexibility to wear other shoes too. Wherever possible, please avoid branded and/or vibrant footwear.

  • Junes Values learning

    Mon 01 Jun 2020 Miss L Stabler

    Each month at Fielding, we learn about a core value in depth, thinking about what the value looks like and what actions both show and don’t show that value. The core Value for June is Resilience with KS2 also thinking about Independence. These continue to be important values, particularly at the moment with so many of us trying to keep bouncing back. Children in school will be taught explicitly what these values mean and how we can show them personally, socially, locally and nationally.

    To support the children’s Values education, we are continuing our monthly home values challenge for those pupils at home. On the webpage for Resilience, there is a set of 8 tasks linked to Resilience. The children’s challenge is to try and complete 5 of these over the month. Miss Stabler will be leading the challenge and sharing her progress as the month goes on.  The Resilience page also has the teaching resources we would use with Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2 children. It also has a link to the Values assembly for Monday 1st June on Resilience by Mrs Haines.

    There is further information on our Value-based Education on our Values page.  This page also has the task cards for our Values Baccalaureate if children in years 4-6 would like to keep working on these.
