  • 7-0 Victory for Year 5 & 6 Girls Football team in Ealing Girls Cup

Mon 23 Jan 2023 Natasha Pasha

Today the Fielding girls’ team had two new players from the development team Anouk (6P) and Avaani (6F) play their debut in the performance team. The girls agreed as they were undefeated the teams’ formations would remain the same. Before the match began girls were instructed to take their time and not panic when clearing the ball and look for options. They were also told to press from the goal kick to put Hobbayne under pressure.  The game started with the girls passing the ball well and driving forward in attack. The girls managed to get an early goal by Flo G (5S) which helped build momentum.  With a confidence injection, the girls started firing balls towards Hobbayne goalkeeper which resulted in Emma (6F) scoring her first goal in the game. Flo G (5S) was now standing in the corner spot and curled the ball and it deflected off the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. She was now on fire and unbeatable as she skilled up the defence and drove forward to score her hat trick. The defence was tight and the girls at the back Anya (6F), Emma (6F), Anouk (6P) and Martha (6H), all communicated well and made some great interceptions to ensure it was a goalless first half. At half-time, the score was 3-0.

Going into the second half changes to the team were made Avaani (6F) Lyla (6H), Flo H (6H), Adelaide(5S), and Evie (6S) all came on and worked well the drive the ball forward but were unfortunately unable to get the ball past the goalkeeper. Then one final change was made, and Ruth (6P) was brought on within minutes she scored two goals straight past the keeper.  Finally, Flo G (5S) sealed the deal by striking the last goal of the game to secure our victory. Resulting in a 7-0 victory!

Well done to Lana who maintained a clean sheet and did not concede any goals.

  • 5-1 Victory for Year 5 & 6 Boys Football team in PEAL Shield match

Mon 23 Jan 2023 Natasha Pasha

Today the Fielding Boys team had two new players from the development team Ahmed (5F) and Ethan (6S) play their debut in the performance team. Before the match began the boys were instructed not to force the pass, communicate and make themselves available but most importantly go in with confidence. The boys took ownership of the formations and agreed as a team they wanted to play 3-1-2. The new formations proved to be successful once Ahmed (5F) was brought onto the pitch as he scored the first goal of the match. Scoring the first goal brought confidence back not the team and boosted the momentum. The boys continued to press the ball, and Ahmed scored his second goal with a one-two pass. The defence was tight and the boys at the back Sev (5S), Gioele (6F), and Ishaaq (6F) all communicated well and made some great interceptions to ensure it was a goalless first half. At half-time, the score was 3-0.

Going into the second half they wanted to secure the win, Ethan (6S) was brought on to the wing to support our attack and assisted Ahmed (5F) scoring his third goal. It was now a hattrick for Ahmed (5S) for his debut after playing for the performance side. Theo (6S), Tem (5F) and Reuben (6S) worked well in attack and made some great passes to each other but unfortunately were unable to get the ball in the back of the net until they sent a ball up to Aidan (6F) who scored the last goal of the match just before the whistle blew.  Hobbayne's goalkeeper accidentally scored an own goal and due to accidental deflection, Hobbayne managed to score one goal.

Well done to Jordi (6S) who was jumping around like spiderman and made some excellent saves or else Hobbayne would have definitely scored a lot more goals.

    Fielding won 5 - 1

  • Excellent pupils' behaviour and attitudes

Fri 20 Jan 2023 Peter Dunmall

Pupils' attitudes and behaviour return to excellence following a long COVID-19 lag. But, we are still keeping a close watch on things and helping pupils to get along with each other even better.

School closure during COVID-19 impacted different children in different ways. Mirroring reports from across the UK, we had to do more to help pupils get back into the routine and expectations of school. It's been a steady journey to help pupils get back to where we were before the pandemic.

At first, teachers worked hard to raise expectations and help pupils get back to the consistent routines of being in school, like sitting properly on a chair at a desk.

Further on, some pupils needed extra help to get along well with one another. Too many pupils told us that others were being unkind - a few pupils told us that they might even be being bullied:

    • we adjusted assemblies so that the strength of our core values guided pupils about what is right and wrong to say and do;
    • 'circle times' took place more often in classes, so that teachers could listen to the worries and needs of pupils, helping pupils to understand, cope and fix worries;
    • Miss Whaley and Phil Kennedy, continue to lead a new drive on anti-bullying, including working with pupil volunteers as our 'Anti-bullying Ambassadors';
    • Mrs Haines worked with teachers to check, resolve, and check again every individual worry told to us by pupils.

If we're missing something for your child, please tell class teachers.

  • There are No Outsiders here- Teaching your children about inclusion and diversity.

Fri 20 Jan 2023 Clare Haines

Preparing children for life in modern Britain

At our school there are no outsiders. We are all different and we know that this is something that should be celebrated!

The 'No Outsiders' programme educates children about diversity within our communities and addresses issues such as sexism, ageism, race and different types of families.

It is taught to each year group through the use of age-appropriate books. Through these beautiful pictures books, the children will explore the concepts of equality, diversity, acceptance of differences and of the right of someone to have an opinion different to their own.  We are planning to run parent workshops in the summer term, so look out for the dates.

    More information

How does No Outsiders fit into the curriculum?

The No Outsiders lessons fit alongside many of the things we already teach in school. They align with our core values of respect, resilience, reflection and empathy. They will also form a part of our relationships lessons, which are part of our RSHE lessons and our Monday assemblies.

When will these lesson and assemblies start?

We will start with our first book after the February half-term break.

Can I see the books before the lessons start?

Yes! I'm hoping the books will be in school before the parent consultation meetings on 30 January and 6 February. I will set these up in the key stage 2 library with some of the lesson and assembly plans so that you can take a look and ask any informal questions.

  • Risk of closure: industrial action

Fri 20 Jan 2023 Peter Dunmall

On Monday, the National Education Union (NEU) announced that its ballot of teacher members in England has met the thresholds required to start industrial action:

    • main school, Reception - year 6, risk of closures;
    • Nursery, likely to remain open.

The NEU has the largest union membership of teachers at Fielding compared to other unions.

The NEU has announced national and regional action in England. There is a risk that the main school will close to pupils. Parents may wish to make contingency arrangements:

    • Wednesday 1 February 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.
    • Thursday 2 March 2023: all eligible members in London, South East & South West regions.
    • Wednesday 15 March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.
    • Thursday 16 March 2023: all eligible members in England and Wales.

Nursery is likely to remain open to children because ballots of other members of staff did not reach the 50% turnout required by law for industrial action. This includes support staff members of the NEU and teacher members of the NASWUT and NAHT.

We will work with teachers, complete our risk assessment and publish closure or partial opening arrangements as soon as we can.

  • Share your views with us, annual parent survey now open

Fri 20 Jan 2023 Clare Haines

Each year we carry out an annual survey to find out parents' views.  Your views are important to us.  We would like to know your thoughts on what we do well and what we could do better. The Governing Board and Senior Leaders will  add your views to our own evaluation enabling us to identify our strengths and areas for improvement.

Last year we had a huge response rate with 480 families families responding,  representing 613 pupils. Here is what you said

The survey should take around 5 minutes to complete, please complete one per child. Click on the link below to get started:

The survey will close on Monday 20 February.

  • This week's Reading Celebrations

Thu 19 Jan 2023 Philippa Whaley

“Reading is an exercise in empathy. An exercise in walking in someone else’s shoes for a while.” – Malorie Blackman

Reading daily improves vocabulary and language skills.

Children learn new words as they read. Subconsciously, they absorb information on how to structure sentences and how to use words and other language features effectively in their writing and speaking.

All pupils who attend Fielding are expected to read for 20 minutes at home every day. This may be to a parent, other adult or independently, if able. Teachers will be checking pupils' reading records every day and signing them weekly to ensure that this is happening and will be following up with pupils and parents when it is not.

As well as signing their reading record every day and writing the name of the book and pages they've read, pupils and parents are encouraged to record new words they come across and discuss the meanings of these together.

It has been a pleasure to visit classes already this year and see so many pupils reading books for pleasure from the recommended reading lists and completing reading response activities in their pink book to achieve bronze, silver, gold and even platinum certificates! The options for these activities can be found in your child's reading record or on their year group noticeboard on the website. We look forward to celebrating further reading achievements next week!

  • Years 4, 5 & 6: Has your child gained a Values Baccalaureate award yet?

Wed 18 Jan 2023 Peter Dunmall

Half of pupils in years 4, 5 or 6 have gained at least one Values Baccalaureate award, so far this year. Many pupils have gained more than one award with a few completing all four - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum - awards:

    • Year 4 pupils:
      • Bronze, 12
      • Silver, 1
    • Year 5 pupils:
      • Bronze, 83
      • Silver, 30
      • Gold, 15
      • Platinum, 3
    • Year 6 pupils:
      • Bronze, 77
      • Silver, 47
      • Gold, 14
      • Platinum, 2

Broadly, we expect pupils to achieve Bronze during year 4, Silver during year 5 and Gold during year 6. Some pupils may achieve the awards earlier and some later. The key part is working through the programme, enjoying new experiences and reflecting on own achievement.

Our Values Baccalaureate programme is unique to Fielding, based on our Values-based education approach. It helps pupils understand the meaning of our values. The programme was co-designed with pupils who suggested tasks matched to each award and the addition of a Platinum award for those who wanted to go further.

A short, simple portfolio, submitted to class teachers to show achievement of tasks results in the award being issued.

    • Well done to William who has provided this lovely example of the tasks he completed to achieve his platinum award!
