  • Coming soon - recommended reading lists!

    Thu 23 Nov 2017

Keeping our focus on reading, our teachers have been working hard putting together recommended reading lists of 40 books for each year group. Teachers have looked at published 'must read' lists and talked to children about their favourite books and authors. They have then linked the books to reading age, level of difficulty and book-bands for each year group.

Next week will publish the finalised lists to seek your views on how we use these lists both in school and home to encourage the children to read a broad range of books. Here is a sneak preview...

  • Application for Nursery September 2018 opens 1st December

    Thu 23 Nov 2017

Is your child turning 3 before August 31st 2018?

Fielding Nursery offers full time nursery places, up to 52 ½ hours per week from 7.30am to 6pm during school term-time and for 9 weeks of school holidays.  Nursery learning and childcare matches the extended school day offered to families and siblings and is  especially designed to support local working parents.

Sessions are flexible and can be taken on a part-time or full-time basis depending on availability and the needs of each family.

Up to 88 places will be available in each session which will be led by qualified early years teachers and specialist early years practitioners.

Our Nursery benefits from being part of the main school but operates separately with a dedicated manager, teachers and childcare team.  Close links with Reception teaching and pupils, through a shared outdoor classroom space, help the transition from Nursery to Reception.

Admissions for September 2018 will open on 1st December and close on 15th January.

  • Keeping our children safe, dogs on the school site

    Thu 23 Nov 2017

    Do you own a dog?

Since September we have noticed an increase in the number of parents bringing dogs onto the school site. Staff and parents have asked us to clarify the 'rules' around bringing dogs to school during the morning drop-off and afternoon collection.

We have looked at what other schools do, there seems to be a wide range of differing opinions. Some school's and local authorities ban dogs altogether, while others only allow dogs if 'their paws don't touch the ground'. We have carried out a risk assessment and as a result have decided to take a balanced view.

The risks associated with bringing dogs onto the school site, including chaining them to the gate, are:

    • dog mess on the playground,
    • a child or adult being bitten,
    • injury to the dog (if chained to a school fence or gate).

To minimise these risks we have decided that dogs that can be carried, e,g, small dogs or puppies, may be bought onto the school site if:

    • they are on a lead and carried.

Dogs must not be allowed to run freely, they are the responsibility of the owner (including if they mess!).

Larger dogs should not be bought onto the school site or chained to a fence or gate.

Assistance dogs will be given permission to enter the site, however the school should be informed in advance.

We would like all parents to take the time to talk to their children about not approaching dogs, including petting or stroking without the permission of the owner.

  • Careless parking risks lives of children

    Thu 23 Nov 2017

An increasing number of concerned parents are contacting the school about cars parking on the yellow zig-zag lines at drop-off and collection times.

The school regularly asks enforcement officers from the Council to patrol.  Fixed Penalty Notices are issued to parents who illegally park on the yellow zig-zag lines.  Parking improves for a short while before thoughtless drivers stop on the yellow lines again.

Previously, the PTFA has organised a poster competition to promote road safety in surrounding roads.  In school, assemblies have been used to promote 'pupil power' to remind parents to drive safely.

The vast majority of our children walk to school.  For the safety of nearly 1,000 pupils, if you drive children to school please avoid stopping or parking (for any length of time) on the yellow zig-zag lines outside of our school entrances.

  • PIANO AND VIOLIN LESSONS FOR Y2 CHILDREN

Mon 20 Nov 2017 Michael Mappin

More Music at Fielding:  Opportunities for Y2 children

We at Fielding Primary School are delighted to announce that we are further expanding our music provision to allow Y2 students to sign up for lessons in Violin and Piano.

Lessons will start in January 2018, and are aimed exclusively at beginners in Year 2.  Experts at Ealing Music Service have recruited  two new tutors for us:  Juleka Nwankwo (violin) and Myenard Martilliano (piano).

    Violin:

Lessons will be on Wednesday mornings during school time.  Children will be taught in groups of 2, and each lesson will last 20 minutes.  There will be 20 lessons between January and the end of the school year, and children will have to commit to signing up for the whole 20-session course.  Each lesson costs £7, and payment will be collected in two lots:  one in January and the other following the Easter holiday.

Ealing Music Service does an excellent instrument hire service which is specially recommended for growing children, as the size of the violin depends on the size of the child.  Details are on the Music page of the Fielding web site.

    Piano:

Lessons will be on Wednesday mornings and afternoons during school time.  Children will be taught on a one-to-one basis, and each lesson will last 20 minutes.  There will be 20 lessons between January and the end of the school year, and children will have to commit to signing up for the whole 20-session course.  Each lesson costs £14, and payment will be collected in two lots:  one in January and the other following the Easter holiday.

Children will need access to a piano or keyboard to practise on at home.  There are various options available, depending on budget and space available.  You can find details on the Music page of the Fielding web site.

    Signing up and payment:

At present, spaces are limited to 14 children per instrument, but we will consider expanding the provision if required.  To sign up for lessons, please log on to your Laser account.  It will be First-Come-First-Served, and after 14 spaces for each instrument have been filled, you will go on a waiting list.

Don’t assume that you have got a place until Mr Mappin contacts you, and remember, this is for current Y2 children only.

Ealing Music Service, our local music provision hub, has just published a showreel filmed at Fielding in July.  It's a celebration of music at our school, and it highlights some of the many reasons we are proud of our Fielding students.  Visit the MUSIC PAGE (CLICK HERE) to read a bit about it and view the video.  Please add comments if you'd like...it's good to know you've seen it.
  • PTFA Christmas Fair

    Thu 16 Nov 2017

    Christmas Fair Children Poster Competition

In preparation for the fair and to advertise the day to our neighbours' we are asking children to decorate posters to put in their window. The poster template has all the important information about the fair and has a space in the middle for your child to personalise it with their own drawing. Once they have done this, put it in your front window, take a picture and email it to us at fieldingchristmasfair@gmail.com . The pictures will be judged and winners announced on the day of Fair. We also hope to display all the entries on the big screen in the main hall, throughout the day. Either print the poster template at home (PDF below) or collect a printed copy from school reception, next week’s Friday cake sale, or breakfast / afterschool club.

    Santa’s Grotto

To meet the increasing numbers of children wishing to see Santa at the fair, we are changing the Grotto experience this year. Santa will be visiting us in the school house and tickets will be pre-sold before the fair, for a specific time slot. We will be inviting 10 children into the grotto at a time, so why not try and coordinate with a group of friends. The tickets will go on sale at 8pm on the 22nd November via our ticket tailor box office http://buytickets.at/fieldingptfa. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Donations for the Christmas Fair – Starting sorting out those cupboards!

As usual we will be collecting donations for the different stalls for the Christmas Fair, starting the week of the 27th November (apart from Lego, which they have already started collecting). Items we need this year are; Lego (loose or sets), used school uniform (new logo only please), sports kit, dressing up outfits (especially the school relevant ones) childrens Christmas jumpers, teddies, second hand games and unwanted gifts (new, unused items only please).

The bottle collection and non - uniform day will take place at the end of this week, 1st December. For any new parents to the school, on this day please drop in a full unopened, in date, bottle (of anything you fancy...) or a box of chocolates, at the collection points at the school gates and in return your child gets to wear their own clothes.

    Fielding Magic show was fantastic

The first Fielding PTFA Magic show was a great success. Thank you to all that came along and enjoyed the show at school on Saturday 11 November. The Magic show was enjoyed by parents and children a like. Samuel Hurst and the rest of his gang from the Beautiful Magicians Club Kids thoroughly entertaining the audience with their magic tricks.

Big thank you to all the volunteers that made the magic show such a great event. The show raised around £1,500 for PTFA funds which will be put to good use investing in the school and its resources. Here's some of the lovely comments we got from parents at the show:
