  • PTFA: Immortalise 2020 in Christmas Baubles!

    Tue 24 Nov 2020

Parents in 3S have pulled together Pine Bauble Craft Kits that allow pupils to create their own baubles for the Christmas Tree.  In fact there are six in each pack which means there could be enough for the whole family!

You'll be able to create unique designs which immortalise the Year 2020 into Christmas Tree decoration history. Included in the pack are six pine wood slices with holes already pre-drilled. There are also a set of colouring pens along with twine to hang the decorations on the tree. Plus, each wood slice is double-sided so children can go crazy - especially if someone makes a mistake!

We are taking pre-orders now.  Craft kits can either be delivered to house (having been quarantined for 72 hours) or collected from Seward Road, W7 2JP - same place as the Sunflower Seeds if you remember that!  Buy the packs at 'Elfridges at Fielding' https://www.tickettailor.com/events/fieldingptfa/

  • Gifts

Tue 24 Nov 2020 Peter Dunmall

Gifts to members of staff are never expected and should not be asked for. However, parents often want to show their thanks to a member of staff at this time of year. Gifts continue to be welcome but we must remain COVID-safe to minimise the risk of coronavirus infection. This year:

    • e-gift vouchers are preferred,
    • avoid presents and giving things because we want to prevent any infection being passed on to staff through surfaces.  If a present is given, staff will quarantine the item for 72 hours.

Teachers typically give each pupil in their class a small gift. This year I have told them that this cannot happen because I do not want to risk any infection in school being transferred to your homes. Teachers might talk to their classes about donating to a chosen charity instead. This feels mean and miserable at this time of year - I am sorry!

  • Year 5, Confirmed case of coronavirus

Mon 23 Nov 2020 Peter Dunmall

We have been told that there has been a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in school. A Year 5 pupil has tested positive for COVID-19.

The pupil showed symptoms on Saturday followed by a positive test result. The following groups have been identified as close contacts of the pupil within 48 hours of symptoms:

    • Class 5H and Mr McConnachie, class teacher
    • Thursday, Sewing Club, 1 other pupil and club teacher
    • Thursday, visiting trainee teacher
    • Friday, an agency teacher covering the class

These people will self-isolate at home for 14 days, returning to school on Monday 7 December. No other pupils or members of staff are identified as close contacts.

We know that you may find this worrying but we are continuing to monitor the situation. We are working with Public Health England, following their requirements for schools and have informed the local authority.

The school remains open and your child, including any siblings of pupils in the class, should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.

What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID-19

If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via:

All other household members who remain well, must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. This includes anyone in your ‘Support Bubble’.

    Further information is available at:

The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.

If you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog, you should ask friends or family. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online.

Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

If you are able, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period.

    Symptoms

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • a new continuous cough
    • a high temperature
    • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If anyone does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at:

If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111:

    How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19. Do:

    • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
    • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
    • wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards

  • Proposed new ARP building at school

Fri 20 Nov 2020 Peter Dunmall

School leaders, the Governing Board of the School and Ealing Council are proposing to develop an additionally resourced provision (ARP) at Fielding Primary School. The provision will be for up to 24 children who have special education needs. These pupils will have an education, health and care plan with needs on the Autistic Spectrum or related Speech, Language and Communications needs.

The Council is proposing to build an additional building on the school site to accommodate the extra pupils. A single storey building, located in the playground area next to the existing School House is planned.

I invited you to an initial, informal consultation which took place in September 2019. Some parents, many staff and some neighbours responded. This has helped us to plan the next stages so that we make this change in the best way possible.

Further information and frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the proposed additionally resourced provision are available on the school’s website:

The Council has published details of the proposal and a statutory notice about the change today. A copy of these are available on the school’s website (I will be pleased to provide a copy on paper, if requested):

The Council is seeking any objections and comments about the proposal by 16 December.

Ealing Council has made a planning application for the new building. A planning application has been submitted (but may not be ‘live’ yet) on Ealing’s planning portal for public viewing and comments:

You may share your views about the planning application through Ealing’s planning portal.
