  • End of term message from SENDCO and SEND Governor

    Tue 15 Dec 2020 Claire Chadwick and Adeel Riaz

    As we end this term with the value of reflection, we'd like to express our gratitude to all staff and especially our teaching assistants, SENDCo, learning mentor and our leadership team who have worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth transition of all pupils back into school and start the Autumn term in such a positive way. We'd like to wholeheartedly thank all staff for working effortlessly in such challenging circumstances,  as well as supporting our pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in particular.

    The resilience of both pupils and staff has been outstanding during these unusual times. The positive relationships and abundance of nurture from teachers and teaching assistants alike, has supported pupils feeling safe, calm and ready to learn. During my visits with Claire, it was reassuring to see interventions creating positive results and through meets with some of you, we were proud to see the immense delivery taking place. We are fully aware of the hours you dedicate, both in front and behind the scenes towards continuous improved teaching/learning to ensure each child has an equal opportunity.

    We look forward to building on this in the new Spring term and enabling all our pupils to be the best they can be: academically, socially and emotionally. We look forward to seeing our learners grow in confidence with the continued dedication and support from staff. As a success, most pupils with SEN&D are making at least expected progress,  which is incredible as we transitioned to periods of remote learning this year. We would like to extend our thanks to our parents for their continued joint support, adaptability and commitment as always.

    This year we wanted to offer our personal appreciation jointly,  whilst recognising the contribution of you all in ensuring we have an inspirational school for each of our children. We wish you all a peaceful Christmas break and wonderful start to the New Year.

  • Chair of Board's Christmas message

    Tue 15 Dec 2020 Rebecca Preston

    As this year draws to a close, I wanted to say a big thank you to Peter Dunmall, Clare Haines and the school staff at Fielding for all their efforts.

    For all of us 2020 has been a tough year, and our thoughts are with those who have suffered during this pandemic and particularly those staff, parents and pupils who remain unwell.

    Since Fielding re-opened, staff have made simply extraordinary efforts, going that extra mile to ensure that the school remain open and safe for all concerned and that no pupil be left behind whether they are learning at school or at home.

    It is testament to the hard work of the senior leadership and teaching staff that Fielding pupils have continued to thrive during this period despite all the challenges.

    I would also like to thank parents, carers and the PTFA for their continued support. Although the Christmas fair and other fundraising events have not been possible, it has been heart-warming to see the school community continue to rally, with a staggering sum raised literally on the whim of a reindeer.

    On behalf of the Governing Board at Fielding Primary, I would like to wish all pupils, parents, carers and staff a very Happy Christmas.

    I hope you keep safe and well and we are looking forward to seeing you back in 2021.

  • Nursery and childcare, 4 more confirmed cases

    Mon 14 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

    We have been advised by Public Health England of confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the Nursery and Breakfast Club for the main school. Three more members of staff who work in Nursery and wrap-around childcare have tested positive. One Nursery pupil has also tested positive. We wish them well.

    Some close contacts are already self-isolating at home. There is no further action for these people:

    • Nursery staff, who are already self-isolating at home;
    • Nursery pupils, who are already self-isolating at home;
    • Reception pupils who attended Breakfast Club last week, who are already self-isolating at home;

    Other close contacts have been identified and contacted by email or telephone today. This includes:

    • 2 other pupils who attended Breakfast Club today;
    • 2 other pupils / siblings who were in close contact with the infected child over the weekend;
    • If we have not contacted you, then your child is not a close contact.

    These pupils and members of staff will now self-isolate at home for up to 10 days before returning to their usual activities. It is important that we all play our part in reducing the spread of infection in our school and community.

    The main school, Breakfast Club and After-school Club for all other pupils is open.

    We know that you may find this worrying but we are continuing to monitor the situation. We are optimistic that these cases are contained within our Nursery and/or childcare 'bubbles'. We are working with Public Health England, following their requirements for schools and have informed the local authority.

    Please be vigilant and act on any sign of symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19).

    Sat 12 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

    We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the Nursery, Breakfast Club and After-school Club for Reception pupils. A member of staff who works in Nursery and wrap-around childcare has tested positive.

    Close contacts have been identified and contacted by email today. This includes:

    • Reception pupils (along with 2 others from other age groups) who attended Breakfast Club on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning,

    These pupils and members of staff will now self-isolate at home for up to 10 days before returning to their usual activities. The government has reduced the period of self-isolation from 14 to 10 days. It is important that we all play our part in reducing the spread of infection in our school and community.

    Nursery is closed to all pupils from Monday because there are no staff available. All must stay at home to self-isolate.

    The main school, Breakfast Club and After-school Club for all other pupils is open.

    We know that you may find this worrying but we are continuing to monitor the situation. We are working with Public Health England, following their requirements for schools and have informed the local authority.

    Fri 11 Dec 2020 Jane Peterson

    Please ensure your Harrison's account is in credit to ensure your child receives a school meal. If your account is not in credit, you will need to provide a packed lunch for your child.

  • Parent governor ballot result

    Thu 10 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Background checks and vetting have now been completed following the recent parent governor ballot. Suzie Howard has been appointed as parent governor to the Governing Board of the school. Her term of office will be 5 years.

    Full results:

    Suzana Howard, 177

    Casper Mason, 74

    Steven Whaley, 57

    1 spoilt ballot paper

    Thanks to all candidates and parents who voted. Many schools struggle to fill parent governor vacancies. It is a credit to the Fielding parent community that all parent governor vacancies are filled, usually requiring a ballot where we have more nominations and parents willing to be a school governor than vacancies.

  • ...and the winners are....Cygnus! Non-uniform day for winners 16th December

    Thu 10 Dec 2020 Clare Haines

    I am very please to let you know that Cygnus are the winners of this term's constellation prize. It was a close outcome between Orion and Cygnus, the counting of tokens was intense! Well done Cygnus.

    Our Year 6 Star Leaders have worked together to plan a COVID safe constellation reward.

    If you child is in the Cygnus constellation on Wednesday 16th December they can come to school dressed in non-school uniform. They will get the opportunity to have an additional playtime during the afternoon, moving through our differnet zones with other pupils from their bubble. I'm expecting a chilly day, so remind them to choose warm clothers and suitable footwear!

  • KS2 Curriculum Hockey

    Thu 10 Dec 2020 Jane Peterson

    After the Christmas break, KS2 children will start to learn the Quicksticks form of hockey in PE. Lessons are planned to ensure children learn in a safe environment with minimal risk of injury. In order to minimise any risk, children are encouraged to wear mouth guards and shin pads. These are not compulsory in lessons, however are recommended. These can be purchased from the majority of sports stores or, alternatively, you can purchase them from school:

    Shin pads (small) £4.50

    Mouth guards £2.00

    Both are now available to purchase via your child's MCAS account. Once payment has been made, orders will be delivered to your child.

  • Site staff, confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19)

    Thu 10 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

    We have been told that there has been a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in school. Piotr, Assistant Caretaker, has tested positive. We wish him well.

    He showed symptoms on Monday evening. Ciarán, Facilities Manager, and Piotr work together as COVID-safely as they can. I am being over cautious as we approach Christmas and the end of term. I have told Ciarán to self-isolate at home. No pupils or other members of staff are identified as close contacts.

    I am not considering closing the school. Ciarán and Piotr's jobs will be covered by agency staff and senior leaders. Other members of staff are volunteering to do as much as they can too. The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well. Please be patient with us if the site does not run as smoothly in Ciarán and Piotr's absence.

    We know that you may find this worrying but we are continuing to monitor the situation. We are working with Public Health England, following their requirements for schools and have informed the local authority.

    What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID-19

    If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they must not come to school and should remain at home for at least 10 days from the date when their symptoms appeared. Anyone with symptoms will be eligible for testing and this can be arranged via:

    All other household members who remain well, must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. This includes anyone in your ‘Support Bubble’.

    Further information is available at:

    The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill.

    Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home.

    If you require help with buying groceries, other shopping or picking up medication, or walking a dog, you should ask friends or family. Alternatively, you can order your shopping online and medication by phone or online.

    Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

    If you are able, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period.

    Symptoms

    The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

    • a new continuous cough
    • a high temperature
    • a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

    For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

    If anyone does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from the nhs.uk website at:

    If you are concerned about your child’s symptoms, or they are worsening you can seek advice from NHS 111:

    How to stop COVID-19 spreading

    There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19. Do:

    • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
    • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
    • wash your hands as soon as you get home
    • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
    • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
