  • Year 6 Excellent outcomes at end of key-stage 2

Sat 13 Jul 2019 Peter Dunmall

85% 'secondary ready'.  Superb mathematics outcomes

The majority of Fielding's Year 6 leavers have reached the government's expected standard (or above) in reading, writing and mathematics outcomes combined.  This headline measure of school performance shows how many pupils leave a primary school 'ready' for secondary school.  The school continues to focus on improving this measure, maintaining very high outcomes compared to other schools nationally.  Last year, 80% of our leavers met the standard, compared to 64% of Year 6 pupils nationally.

Over a quarter of our pupils (29%) reached the higher standard in reading, writing and mathematics combined; compared to 23% last year and just 10% nationally.

Mathematics outcomes have improved considerably, reflecting a school improvement priority and change in teaching approach over the last couple of years.  Nearly every child (95%) reached the expected standard with half (50%) achieving the higher standard, reflecting sufficient stretch and challenge by teachers with pupils reasoning and explaining mathematically.  Last year, 85% met the expected standard with 36% reaching the higher standard.

Writing outcomes remain very high.  Nearly every child (96%) reached the expected standard with nearly half (44%) reaching the higher standard.

Reading outcomes remain well above national with 86% reaching the expected standard and 43% at the higher standard.  Reading and developing a breadth of knowledge and vocabulary from a broad and balanced curriculum from Year 3 has been identified as a new school priority from September 2019.  Read more:

  • Happy Circus is coming to Fielding this weekend!

    Fri 12 Jul 2019

The Big Top will be going up on the school field in readiness for Sunday's first performance and ticket sales are storming ahead now for Monday and Tuesday performances after selling out all 600 tickets for the day before. If you want to make sure you and your kids get to see this spectacular "Greatest Showman" themed event, you really need to get your tickets now!!

Our very own Northfields Indian street food caterer, Patri, will be serving delicious food on site, along with a vintage camper van serving kid-friendly posh pizzas and a specialist street food trader serving sweet crepes. There will also be a bar and the usual ice-creams etc so book your tickets today for the final PTFA event of the year and help raise vital funds for our school.

Fielding Circus needs you! As you can imagine it's a massive task to host this event but it's not something that can be covered by the core PTFA volunteers alone. We are after any parents who are willing to donate an hour or two of their time, or preferably the full five hours if you would like special VIP treatment when attending the event! Roles include Ticket Scanning, Bar Staff, Ice Cream stall, First aid, Tidy Up and Entry Stewards.

Even if you have never helped before, it's a really rewarding experience. It's also a great way of saying thank you to the school staff, as we have opened up a number of free tickets to staff and their families in recognition of everything they do for our kids day after day. • Open Garden Week & Summer Volunteers

Thu 11 Jul 2019 Ellie Lock

If you'd like to join the band of absolute legends who look after the Kitchen Garden in the summer holidays, the Summer Volunteer List is going up on the garden gate tomorrow morning. There are now SEVEN chickens to look after!

It was so lovely meeting you all in the Spring Open Garden Week, that we've decided to do it again. Next week the garden will be open every day from 8.30am - come and see what amazing things your children have achieved this year. There will be plants and produce for sale (to raise money for the next gardening season), and - shhh - there may be chocolate brownies...

    Latest garden news here.

  • PTFA Book Donation Site Now Open

    Thu 11 Jul 2019
As some of you may know, Fielding has overhauled the 'Recommended Reading List' for students to read before they leave for secondary school. The PTFA would love to help stock the school library with some of these books and we are hoping to raise £5,000 from this initiative.  If you haven't been able to volunteer as much as you would have liked over the last year, then this might be an easy option before the end of the Summer Term!

Amongst the 465 books, they include The Cat in the Hat, The Midnight Gang, George's Marvellous Medicine, Harry Potter, Watership Down, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, The Smartest Giant in Town.

There are three ways you can help:
    1. Donate money using the online link: http://bit.ly/FieldingRecommendedReading.   Please add you name and the book you want to donate.  We are asking for a minimum donation of £6.
    2. You can purchase a book this weekend from any good book retailer and drop it into the school reception
    3. If you have any books at home from the reading list that you wish to donate, then these can also be dropped off at the school reception

The Recommended Reading List by year group is available at http://www.fieldingprimary.com/library-books-wish-list/

  • YEAR 6: Final chance to leave a legacy at Fielding

    Thu 11 Jul 2019

First of all, the PTFA would like to thank all Year 6 students and parents for helping us raise game changing amounts of money over the time you have been at the school. We hope that your child's experience has been enriched with the work that the PTFA has helped fund...including the most recent addition of the Kitchen Garden.

One final request from the PTFA before you leave.  As some of you may know, Fielding has overhauled the 'Recommended Reading List' for students to read before they leave for secondary school. The PTFA would love to help stock the school library with some of these books and we are hoping to raise £5,000 from this initiative.  If you haven't been able to volunteer as much as you would have liked, then this is part of your lasting legacy!

  • Fielding summer Holiday club 2019

    Wed 10 Jul 2019

The summer Holiday club bookings get off to a flying start, with trips days being super popular!

Please log into the school website to view the full programme. We have planned mixture of exciting and fun trips and activities that will provide something for everyone. Please be reminded that on some trip days we may need to cap the numbers of children attending due to venue requirement. Book early to prevent disappointment. Also to avoid the adhoc fee, complete bookings before they close at midday on Friday before the start of following week.

  • Choir Places

    Wed 10 Jul 2019 Maria Neil-Smith
Choir places will be confirmed next week via a list on the Music page of the website. Places allocated on an invitation basis not bookable through laser. All children will be given the chance to audition in their music lessons (sing happy birthday) and anyone who who wants to be part of it will be added to the waiting list. This because there are limited places and this is currently the fairest method of allocation. I would advise booking the specialist club of your choice this evening. If a choir place has been allocated changes will be updated on laser to reflect this.
  • Family Links back on Friday mornings

Wed 10 Jul 2019 Desha Gill

We will be holding a Coffee Morning on Friday 13th September in the School House starting at 9.00 until 10.00 am.

If you would like to find out more about the programme, then please do come along.
