  • Use of front entrance lobby after school

Fri 25 Nov 2016 Peter Dunmall

Use of front entrance lobby after school

A small but increasing number of pupils and adults have been using the lobby area at the main entrance of the school as a meeting point, for the toilet and as a late pick-up point.  The main entrance to the school and lobby area is primarily for use by parents for face-to-face queries; for staff as their main entrance and exit; to welcome and screen visitors to our school and for ad-hoc collection and drop-off of pupils.  Therefore:

    • pupils should use toilets in year group areas before or at home time collection;
    • at collection, adults must meet pupils at exit doors and/or make arrangements to meet other siblings at named exit doors;
    • if adults are late for collection, pupils wait with class teachers up until 3.40pm and then are taken to our after-school club where children will be looked after and parents charged a fee.
    • the entrance to reception area cannot facilitate buggies or prams. These must be kept out side at all times.

There is no need for pupils to be in the lobby area unless they are with an adult who has popped into the office for a brief face-to-face query or planned meeting.

Poor attendance can seriously affect each child’s:

 confidence to attempt new work and to learn alongside others.

  • Stone Age Fun in Year 3

    Thu 24 Nov 2016
What was life like in the Stone Age? This is the question faced by Year 3 this term. Children have found out about the job of an archaeologist, how shelters were made and discovered facts about hunter gathers. Year 3 were especially disgusted to find out that some early humans ate the last meal from the stomachs of the animals caught for supper! The story of 'Ug' by Raymond Briggs has been heard and the children are learning to write comic strips about the Stone Age using their computer skills. Looking forward, we are excited about dressing up on December 1st in our Stone Age costumes and discovering more about the fascinating Stone Age.

  • Reception Autumn Walk

Tue 22 Nov 2016 Miss Haylock

Last week was very exciting in Reception - the children went on their first school trip! By the level of excitement you would have thought we were going to the moon, however in reality the trip was far more low key - to the local park -Lammas Park! The children loved collecting leaves, conkers, acorns and various other interesting items - including an old boot half chewed by foxes! A huge thank you goes out to all the parent helpers - you were fantastic and the trip would not have been possible without you giving up your time! All in all a very successful first trip out the school gates for all of Reception!

  • Music Assembly

Mon 21 Nov 2016 Michael Mappin

Fielding's next Music Assembly will take place on Monday 28th November.

Fielding Music Assemblies give our talented musicians a chance to perform in front of their peers.  In this Assembly, we want to hear ONLY from children who play an instrument...NO SINGERS OR BANDS on this occasion.  So if you play piano, guitar, clarinet or any other instrument, we'd like to hear from you.  Perhaps you might want to perform a solo; possibly you'll need a piano accompaniment (Mr Mappin can help with this); or maybe you want to do a duet or trio with a couple of friends.

It is important that anyone who decides to perform has practised beforehand and is prepared to play in front of an audience of over 350 children...just a little scary!

If children have a piece that they're particularly proud of (perhaps something they've been practising for their lessons) then they should let Mr Mappin know as soon as possible.  Performers will have to bring in their instruments on Friday afternoon to rehearse, then will play to the school on Monday morning or afternoon (during their normal assembly time).

Children should sign up as soon as they can...spaces are limited, and there is no guarantee that they will be able to play on Monday.  But don't worry, because there will be plenty more chances to perform in future Music Assemblies.

  • Dragon's Den in Year 6!

    Fri 18 Nov 2016 Miss N. Jones

Today the Year 6 corridor has been turned into a den of dragons.

Pupils have spent the last few weeks tirelessly preparing a presentation, demonstrating the values of cooperation and unity, to create an original idea for a stall at the upcoming Christmas Fair.

The pupils worked together in teams of four - five to  produce a business plan and then present this to the ‘Dragon’s Den’ in the hopes of winning their own stall at the Fair. Each group clearly outlined their idea, intentions, profit, cost, demonstrations and even a musical number!

After watching the pupils’ presentations, the ‘Dragons’ commented that the presentations were that 'the quality gets better year upon year!'.

The winning stalls, which will be appearing at the Christmas Fair on the 3rd December are:

Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar (6S)

    Pinned Christmas (6F)

    Christmas Memory Game (6F)

    Santa's Adventure Trail (6P)

Knock the Star Off The Christmas (6S)

    Special mention goes out to:

Elf In The Making - for a great song!

Chimney Rush - for a great and well thought-out presentation.

Underground Tube Map - for a incredibly original idea.

A huge thank you is in order for the PTFA Dragon's that superbly judged the wonderful presentations the Year Six's gave today.

Well done to all that were involved.
